Yeah. I have a prof who studied with Grisey too. Another with Alan Forte and one was taught by two of Schoenberg's pupils.

You're going to write extremely esoteric atonal music that will only be listened to by the the "enlightened"

Those people are responsible for the death of western art music in exactly the same way bebop is responsible for the death of jazz.

film and television music usually consists of shitty rip-offs of actual classical music from the 20th century

see: the soundtrack to lost

or for a more concrete example, see 2001 a space odyssey where kubrick literally didn't use somebody's score because it was just a shittier version of the actual classical music he used instead

I don't mind him I guess, but my point still stands. Normies will absolutely hate him, which makes it esoteric.

>shitty rip-offs of actual classical music from the 20th century
This can be disproved by example. I point to almost the entire OST of Battlestar Galactica

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYwpt092O7U

If this is ripping something off its doing a damn good job. Not film's fault that actual classical music shat the bed in the second half of the century.

Kodaly and Bartok and almost unknown, barring Bartok's propensity for memeing himself, while Liszt is famous for making literally making glorified etudes.

...Just like German composers.

Sorry if this is too pleb but I'm just going to drop three recordings of some of my favorite GnS operas (The Mikado, The Gondoliers, and Trial by Jury) from the 1920s, featuring some of the best D'Oyly Carte performers like Leo Sheffield and Henry Lytton.

I also highly encourage that you buy these recordings too, because the transfers are the best I could ask for, all things considered, and the business (78s2cd) is rather small.

Wait shit I realized it wasn't Gondoliers I uploaded but rather the 1924 acoustic recording of Princess Ida, the only D'Oyly Carte recording of the opera to have the song "Come, Mighty Must" sung by Bertha Lewis

>no Pinafore

You're right, you are too pleb
>>
>>61773363

I can never decide if I prefer the G&S operas which are more on the satirical side or edging towards slightly more serious (say, Iolanthe vs Yeoman)

I'd consider Pinafore to be the most pleb (damn good, but still pleb) of the operas because it has a very early musical comedy style. Either way, recordings of Pinafore are easier to come by than Princess Ida (which has some of the most delightful music Sullivan ever composed in it)

Right here in fact is a 1929 recording of Pinafore featuring Sir Henry Lytton as Sir Joseph Porter in it.

>>61774989

That's an interesting way to look at the conflict, since I always felt that Yeoman was rather unique in how serious it was. Most people would say it was a Gilbert or Sullivan conflict (take Ruddigore vs Gondoliers, for example)
