Although a master song writer the guy strikes me as kind of conceited in most of his interviews, unlike bowie who's humble demeanor I think contributed a lot to his likability and mourning not to mention his mysticism and coolness factor. also Bowie's music feels richer has more depth to it generally even if McCartney's contributions did more for popular music.
