Genesis is actually pretty tasteful most of the time. King Crimson is obvious. German prog is usually hella stripped so it's rare to come across wankery in that frontier. Italian prog seems to usually be void of pretension. Japanese prog is a lot of fun. I know I'm not giving you many names but these generalizations are essentially true. British and American prog, despite it being the most popular, happens to be the most bloated. Fuck ELP.

Yes, even if you dislike them for being quirky or annoyng, you can't deny that Sing to God was a unique album.

unique for a band that sounds like john lydon trying to figure out if he wants to be Queen or Zappa more

reminder that henry cow's legend and van der graaf generator are the sweet spot in prog and anything above that is automatically shit

Oh man not this shit again. When will this shithole learn that just because the music is experimental, avante garde, or challenging doesn't mean that it's good? in Yes the instruments serve the compositions, not the other way around.

I think I would enjoy them and possibly Ruins a lot were it not for the completely overdone vocals.

Any suggestions like that, but instrumental?

pfff alright then, since i'm in a good mood cause i just got my analog synth

>Gryphon
Guitar, recorder, crumhorns, bassoon, organs, bass, timpani, drums, bass, synths. more of a folk band, but have prog compositions in their last 3 albums. last album sounds more like Yes. Red Queen is a masterpiece and a prog essential. my personal favourite band

>Gentle Giant
Can't really describe it. amazing band. lots of time signature switching but they keep it accessible by using an 'easy four on the floor' beat. they can switch from hard rock to baroque without any trouble. complex vocals also. their live album Playing the Fool is their best, but start with their second 'Acquiring the taste'

they're also groovy as fuck

>Aqsack Maboul
Belgian band, kind of like henry cow. start with Un Peu de l'Âme des Bandits. Fred frith mixed it and played on it as well.

>Harmonium
Canadian prog folk. acoustic guitars, bass, piano clarinet and mellotron. Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième Saison, their best, is extremely good, anyone who's heard can confirm

>Koenjihyakkei
Japanese Zeuhl, already posted above. rather abrasive and spastic in terms of compostion, sometimes jazzy. depends on your taste if you'll like it. crazy drumming, bass, sax and synths, with unique vocals

>Moon Safari
Beach Boys + Yes. Swedish modern prog. Blomjud (2008) is amazing

>Osamu Kitajima
Japanese mike oldfield. Benzaiten is his most popular, featuring amazing percussion but no drumkits involved

>Osanna
Italian Genesis. standard prog setup: drums, guitars, bass, moog, flute. Palepoli is their most famous and most representative.

>Third Ear Band
Psychedelic folk/art rock/world music. scaruffi digs it, so must be good eh

>Semiramis
Classic italo prog. must listen
>>
>>61747333
>>61745574

>Bubu
Prog from Argentina. Check out Anabelas. not an easy first listen, lots of interplay between instruments. Reminiscent of King Crimson

>McLuhan - Anomaly (great instrumentals, edgy lyrics)
Prog rock/Jazz fusion. Only one album. Not really complex or extraordinary, but this album has lots of features which will make you say "yep, this is prog" kind of cheesy 'proggy' lyrics imo, but still great if you have a bit of humor.
I forgot some

>Bacamarte - Depois du film
Brazillian symphonic prog. lots of classical influences. released in the late 70's, but sounds like early 70's (in prog this is a big difference)

>Atoll - L'Araignée-Mal
French prog. nothing extraordinary here, but it has a lovely texture and the album has a great atmoshere

>Pekka Pohjola - Pihkasilmä Kaarnakorva
finnish multi instrumentalist. havent listened to it enough to give a description, but it is good.

>Bo hansson
Swedish multi instrumentalist. instumental prog/space rock. had to fit him in since he made a lord of the rings album. which is kind of the prog stereotype. quite comfy music, nothing crazy
>>
>>61747393
>released in the late 70's, but sounds like early 70's (in prog this is a big difference)

I believe that album was delayed after it was recorded or composed, because the band leader decided that the tide has turned against prog, or something like that, and was only released later.
>>
>>61747439
good to know. wiki says recorder in '78, and released in '80. which is still a huge difference, considering the direction the other major prog band were heading at that time, and the coming of digital synths and such
>>
>>61747582
1983 actually apparently.
