Also forgot to mention the Roland Micro Cube.
With an option for battery power and a shitload of effects, plus a pretty simple DAC with connectivity with apps on ios.
But its also pretty expensive for a small amp.
But seems pretty cool.

And also there's the Vox Mini and micro amps. They look damn good.

portability, easy to carry, practice anywhere even in apartments that dont allow noise with or WITHOUT wearing headphones. Also play at parties, streets and outdoors without damaging your shit or getting it stolen.

This is true. In that case I guess it's a matter of portability or playing with other people. I guess it'd be good for playing alongside acoustics.

Ok so before I could reply to your post saying that the Fender was $50 more in the other thread.

Personally I don't like G&K stuff at all, a lot of their sound pretty rubbish compared to their competitors and their cabs are nothing special.

Speakers in the Fender are really good though. Used a couple myself and they're almost on par with the Eden/Mesa cabs I've used.
>>
Other thread is kill, guy who asked for the upright sound on bass: Forget it, you can't just mimic the sound of an upright bass on your bass guitar. Get an electric upright if you really want that (and prepare to suck on it as well).
>>
Great work deleting the properly made thread mods, reddit will be always thankful for your service

If you play a lot of shows and aren't really concerned about the quality of your tone (but the quality of your gear instead) get BOSS stuff.

it's okay man, we understand. feel better soon
>>
>>61616044
Thanks for the reply mate, other choices would be:
Eden EX410SC (430 bucks)
Eden EX410 (645 bucks, ouch)
or something like a Tecamp L410 (698)

But that is starting to get really expensive.

There is a Fender Bullet Bass for sale near me, the guy wants $650, but I think he may go down to $550. It's from 1979-'81, American made, stock hardware. Supposedly they're the same pickups as what the Mustang had. Anyone have experience with this bass? Is it worth it? I'm interested in defreting it, after I practice the job on my basic Squire.
>>
>>61614703
You wanted to try a heavier gauge string set yeah?
>>
>>61616141
Way I'd go man.
If you really wanna save money for a cab that will be fine for live go with the Fender

If you wanna spend as much as you can for a decent cab for recording/live go with the Eden.
>>
>>61616044
>>61616141
i dunno if you got my reply in the other thread but im gonna second not being too into most GK stuff. the eminences in the fender are pretty good.
>>
>>61616141
just curious, is ampeg not widely available where you are?
>>
>>61616194
Wait, so which one would you prefer? The Fender or the Eden EX410SC? The Fender ist still in my price range I just heard that the build quality on it can be iffy, also do you have experienec with a 5-string and said cabinets?
>>61616225
Okay, thanks for the info.
>>61616243
Yes they are, but they're also pretty damn expensive. Ampeg PF-410HLF for 650 (and apparently it's not amazing in terms of low-end) and the SVT-410HLF for 750.
>>
>>61616285
As I said, if I was looking to save a bit of money the Fender, but if you can stretch the budget definitely go with the Eden man, great cabs.

Yeah my bassist used his Warwick 5-string through one and a Mesa 1x15 for recording and it sounded beastly, way better than his Hartke cabs. I've used the Fenders with my 6 string bass before and they're alright but not on the same level as an Eden or Mesa.
>>
>>61616048
more on upright from an electric:
https://youtu.be/-6xX6FE7SsQ
Also a rob Allen mb-2 is pretty dead on for upright tone, though it's an acoustic-electric.
>>
>>61616346
Also I was referring to the EX410 sorry, that's the one I've used and know sounds good.
>>
>>61616285
>SVT-410HLF for 750.
ah thats too bad. i really like that cab
>>
>>61614012
I definitely prefer teardrop burst. Sorry anon.

>>61614139
Sevens are extremely useful for tracking. I do 90% of my recording with one. Live is almost always a six though.
>>
>>61616346
But the EX410SC is cheaper than the Fender, or is the SC not comparable to the other Eden cabs? Again, confused. I'm not sure if I can just go by brand here....
>>61616377
oh okay, thanks. I'll keep it in mind then.
>>61616393
That's so damn expensive though, I could afford it but, eh. That's a lot of money at the end of the day. Also, from a bit of research it seems like TecAmp has a good reputation here, and they're made in Germany which I usually appreciate. But, again, 700 bucks.
>>
>>61616434
no i get that. if you want to save money cabs are a safe thing to buy used.
>>

I know, but the shitty part is that the used market here is dead. I could be waiting months until a decent offer might pop up that is somewhere closeby, literally the only decent cabinet on the used market in my city right now would be a Yamaha 410 .

I really wish I knew how to set up basses for drop tuning.

:(
>>
>>61616786
put on thicker strings. adjust truss rod if the neck is bowed. possible move saddle if the intonation is off now. its really simple
>>

this is literally all it is. don't be intimidated All you need is the right size allen wrenches and maybe a screwdriver
>>
>>61616807
>>61616856
Gotta file down the nut a bit to lay on thicker strings but thats the least of my worries. Tried messing with truss rod with first bass and destroyed that thing pretty much. Idk wtf the saddles even do but I know to adjust them.

Been playing 5 years with the same set up its the only reason I go to guitar center to play something different.

I just acquired a 1967 Fender Bassman with new tubes in pristine condition for $600. How did I do?
>>
>>61616905
only thing with the truss rod is you have to go slow and without string tension. 1/4 to 1/2 turn at a time and there should be zero creaking sounds
>>
>>61616940
probably pretty good deal http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/fender-bassman-50w-amp-head-1964-s469
>>
>>61616346
I'm actually leaning more towards the Fender now that I think about it, all the problems I've heard about were in terms of the glued on cover coming loose (who cares, honestly) and the speakers are tried and tested at that point. I can also step it up with a 210 or another 410 if I ever need to or want to. The only question that remains for me, how well would a single rumble 410 handle a 5-string?
>>
>>61616943
I messed around with the trussrod a LOT on my first bass, never warped the neck or "ruined" it in any way even though it was really cheap.
>>
>>61616905
You don't need to file down the nut, maybe just widen the slots. Think or it like a zero fret, or using a capo. The strings just need to follow the radius.
>>
>>61616905
the saddles adjust string height and intonation

So I brought this '67 Sunn cab back to life. I want to give it a new grill cloth but it's the old brown cloth before they went to silver, and it just wouldn't feel right to remove it. Loaded it with Delta Pro 15A's, all that's left is to get new corner braces for the back side. Thought my rig was finally complete until my Sovtek started crackling and popping everytime I play a note. Maybe I'll just sell all this shit for a Model T or a Matamp
>>
>>61617833

Pedalboard plan for the next few weeks. Only a couple pedals missing.

Now just have to figure out if I'm going to try to actually make it out of veneered plywood or get somebody else to make it for me.

Is there any more efficient layout for cable organization than the central channel routing I'm planning on pic related?

>>
>>61618920
I can't see exactly where you're routing the ISP. Just remember a G-String gates on the loop and only uses the main input to track the dry signal.
>>
>>61618966
I already have the ISP running on my current PB. The only pedals missing are the Astrospurt and Magnifica Plus currently.

The G-String is gating through the loop all the gain pedals, the boost and the compressor (red lines). All modulation and the looper are out of the Decimator (blue lines).

>inb4 the rondo shill starts spamming this shit too
>>
>>61619002
Just making sure you're using it properly. People misuse that pedal constantly. I use a different version that has two inputs and outputs and gates independently on each.
>>
>>61619068
Yeah, I'm aware that people misuse them all the time.

I took A LONG time reading the manual and the official ISP FAQ until I figured out exactly how it works.

It turns out that it's quite simple. The G-String II has an internal loop that gates all pedals (and/or your FX loop) that goes through it, that's where you put your noisy pedals. Then your guitar should go straight to it and on its output you put either your amp directly or any other pedal you don't want gated.

It's slightly different if you have an FX Loop but I don't, so it makes things easier.

Sup guys. I own two guitars, an acoustic from brownsville and an epiphone les paul that I've had since I was, like, 12. I don't really plan on getting new shit since I don't play professionally or anything, just for fun, but I've noticed something that I need some clarification on—playing bar chords on the brownsville requires a much heavier press than the lp. Is this normal?
>>
>>61619020
oh wow they actually make guitars too. i wonder if any are decent.
>>
>>61619126
Acoustics usually have heavier strings.
>>
>>61619165
Do you know why?
>>
>>61619169
Put electric guitar strings on your acoustic and find out.
>>
>>61619123
Yeah it's dead simple when you understand it. I think a lot of people bought them thinking it was a "better" version of the standard Decimator, when realistically it's a different take on the pedal.

Like I said before, I use the version that has two gates and operates them independently. You can adjust the dyanmic filters on each too which is nice.
>>
>>61619224
Which version is that? Is that the tower-like one that costs almost a grand?

i tried to order a warped vinyl from amazon the other day and they cancelled the order on me. I was disappointed. It says they have plenty in stock.
>>
>>61619439
so it is a noise gate which shuts down the signal path under a certain threshold. why do you need it for guitar? it's a serious question. i understand why you would use a gate on toms on a drum set to avoid cymbal spill or on background vocals to avoid spill from the stage sound. but why for guitar?
>>
>>61619473
because pedals can get really noisy. and if you want 0db you need a gate. Even with a volume knob, you'll have the noise cause the pedal makes it.
>>
>>61619473
Guitars, pedals, amps and interface preamps have noise and people want to remove them, you dumb fuck.
>>
>>61619492
but you could just bypass the pedal, isn't a switcher/looper the better way to do this?
>>
>>61619502
to get rid of the amp noise you would have to put that gate between preamp and power amp, not in front of the amp.
>>
>>61619473
Feedback, hum, etc. It'll kill preamp hiss, pedal hiss, so on and so forth.

This >>61619492 and >>61619502. Can you run your volume knob from 10 to 0 during any form of staccato playing under gain?

>>61619519
So to you, turning a pedal off anytime there's any form of mute makes more sense than using a gate? Noise gates aren't straight open and close devices. They use downward expansion.

>>61619531
The gate >>61619338 can gate the front and effects loop of an amplifier.
>>
>>61619519
Skip to 0:40. It's really not that hard to understand. Using metal as an extreme example, but gates are useful basically anywhere gain or pedal noise is involved.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZPkvAjHMhY
>>
>>61619546
no, if you have a big muff on max or high gain you'll still get noise with the volume all the way off.
>>
>>61619582
No kidding. That's why you'd use a noise gate.
>>
>>61619546
>staccato playing
okay, that makes sense. thanks.

be nice, guys.
>>
let me add to this >>61619582 run your guitar through a high gain pedal, put your guitars volume at 0. You'll still get hiss, this is because the pedal is making the noise and not the guitar. The gate eliminates the noise because it is too high in the threshold.
>>
>>61619615
Staccato is an extreme example. Gates are fairly smart devices and will kill noise most of the time, not just during quick muting.

Gates are very simple devices.

The gate that started this discussion uses time vector processing on the downward expander (variable ratio), release time, and low pass filter. It's a cut above your standard open and close gate.

Guy with the used Walrus Audio Descent here again.
Besides the noise coming from dialing the knobs, which now I put more attention and indeed are not constant ticks as I thought, when saving a preset, it makes the same ticking noise.
To save a preset, you hold down the bypass switch, and its LED wil start blinking, until it saves.
Well, as the LED blinks, the ticks are being heard.

This is just a little dirt on the pots (and the led base I guess) that some electronics cleaner can take care of, r-right?

I have an acoustic, and a Peavy electric. But i was wondering, what should be the first guitar i save up my own money for? Like, a good sounding, reliable, adaptable instrument, that also looks aesthetic as fuck.

$800 absolute max if its amazing, would pref around 400. Electric.

How does a electric guitar with a piezo sound through the piezo pickup?

Does it sound like a acoustic guitar plugged in? Or is it more like a bridge single coil sound?

I want to use it for strumming, basically get the nice pick attack you would get from strumming an acoustic. Basically, good treble extension which the electric doesn't have.

>>61622510

I think they are worth the money. I've only fingered the baritone for a couple of minutes though so I don't know how the extra scale length affects the guitar.

>>
>>61622553

Do you mean doing rapid pull offs with the high E? That happened to me because I was utilizing too much movement on my fretting hand. You should be hammering your finger on the string really hard, then flicking it off. Make sure you are not using so much force focusing on pushing the whole string off the fretboard.

It also helps if the finger that you use to barre isn't moving at all.

>>
>>61622573
Yeah. That's what I'm talking about.
But I need to pluck the string a little bit to do a proper pull off, that's what's causing me to drag the string outside.
>>
>>61622266
When doing your trills, concentrate on pulling the finger off downwards so as the string catches slightly on your fingertip. Take extra care to not pull the note too far while fretted to stop intonation issues (the note sounding in tune). These trills will be easier to practice on the high E as there are no strings above it, with the others you need to be concerned about muting unwanted strings from resonating. Remember to take it slow and don't persist if you feel any pain!
>>
>>61622601

Does this problem exist if you pull off on open strings? Like, take your middle finger and pull off whatever fret you want on the High E string rapidly. Does the string still fall out the fretboard?

If it does, then its something to do with how you are pulling off. If not, it might be because when you barred a note with your index finger, it moves along with your other finger you use for pulling off, causing the string to fall out.
