the true explanation is that DI6 were in those early days getting by through being vague and secretive about what their actual politics were
douglas pearce was for a time working in the thoroughly left-wing(of the proto-tumblr slacktivist SJW variety more than any actual activism or political involvement though) rough trade record shop and rough trade for some years handled the distribution of DI6 albums, most likely shrugging off the undertones of the music as provocation and criticism based on the standard one-dimensional and simplistic "he's gay so how can he be right-wing?" idea
if DI6 were actually to come out about their right-wing allegiances pearce would have lost his job and record deal, so the only thing to do when wakeford came out as an NF supporter was to kick him out of the band and pretend they were no longer on good terms with each other
