Those with access to "high culture" (usually those with a bit of wealth and a rather high place in society) can afford to attend concerts of art music, be parts of larger orchestras (those instruments and tuitions don't come cheap), and generally are expected to have a higher knowledge of that music as whole
As another part of this, this group also undoubtedly has a greater access to education and sources of learning, such as more advanced schools, programs, and tutors
What it boils down to is that art music in itself does not make you erudite; it is simply the common case that those who are intelligent also happen to listen to art music. I've seen several exceptions both ways, so it's definitely not an objective or universal rule

That's an interesting article but according to it, big band is more linked with intelligence than art music is, which means the "complexity" and "analysis" of the music has little to do with it (as well as the fact that the preference for gospel is below that of rap). And on top of that, I've never seen anyone make one of these threads for big band
