Death grips don't stand up to repeated listens. Their stuff is initially arresting but gets a bit samey. In retrospect TMS is a bit silly, like what the fuck was hacker? 'soon you'll be eating sandwiches named after me' like what the fuck?

They make some good stuff, but the thing is their marketing is really fucking good- like dropping things completely out of the blue and the ARGs and stuff, it's all really innovative, and I think mu often gets caught up in that.

Jenny Death was pretty sweet though

>>61533592
yeah but harsh noise wall isn't really my thing
I like Bone Awl though, it's just that I prefer it when The Rita isn't involved

>>61533577
I like them I guess, but i think they're one of those bands that have a really cool concept but the music doesn't really quite live up to my expectations
Here, have some happy positive punk (posi-punk?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wws3hGWh4CM

>>61533620
Yeah it's that one
We've had time to write enough material for like a 12 minute gig, we're trying to get a friend's crust/grind band to play with us too so it's probably going to be a nice dirty show
I mean that's if the crusties are cool with playing with a bunch of clean-cut kids playing post-hardcore but still

>>61533632
It's probably just that A View From High Tides is so much more interesting
It actually does something fresh with the old screamo sound and it does it really well, and the first album tried to do that as well but it sounds really spotty and the production doesn't really fit either
We haven't recorded anything official in this incarnation, just a basement recording I guess
We're working on it though
>>
>>61533554

>>61533708
>yeah but harsh noise wall isn't really my thing
>I like Bone Awl though, it's just that I prefer it when The Rita isn't involved
I totally get that, I personally love HNW with buried bits of other sound but I can see where most people woulden't
>>
>>61533724
oh that sucks
that means you had more time to go out and do other things though which is probably nice once in a while

Uh I think it's at Göta Källare sometime in March, not sure about the details yet because I didn't feel like organizing it this time, I put it in the hands of my friend instead

>>61533726
Yeah I mean I enjoy noise but HNW is pushing it

>what did you read?

>on the road (the originial scroll
before i had read on the road in swedish and kinda dug it, but it was a couple of years ago. this version is wonderful, it keeps all the original names of the characters (burroughs, ginsberg, cassady etc.) and it makes the book feel so much more immersive and alive.

>the dharma bums
really nice little book. the descriptions of hiking, meditation and solitude are so beautiful in their simplicity. at times i wasn't a huge fan of the translation (mats zetterberg 2009), he got a bit too enthusiastic when trying to capture the prose of homeless people and truckers

>the castle by kafka
loved it, couldn't get the ending out of my head for days. liked it even better than the trial.

>allt jag inte minns
this one is also fucking amazing. won augustpriset this year i think. it's so damn well-paced and it feels like he writes with such ease. highly recommended

>to have and have not
worst hemingway i've read, sadly. it still has some great aspects but the story just feels empty and the protagonist is a really uninteresting character. it gets pretty good at the end but meh

>robert wangeby - komma hem
really uninteresting. seems like he's still looking for his literary voice and hasn't really figured out what it is that he wants to say with the book. left it at the hotel

>the master and margarita
one of the most entertaining books i've read. fast-paced good fun. haven't really had much time to think about this one since i finished it yesterday but i really dug it

probably read some other book too that i forgot about but w/e
>>
>>61534719
oh wow that's a lot
I went to fjällen with my family over christmas, so I had some time to read as well
Next time I'm going with a bunch of friends and like 70 others so no time for reading
Anyway, I went through

Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata
Hunger by Knut Hamsun
Doktor Glas by you know yeah you know

all three were actually really good, especially Snow Country

I'll read The Castle as soon as I can
>>
>>61534853
the castle is such an experience man
i don't know how he does it but even though the descriptions of the characters and the environment are kinda sparse it still feels like such a rich book
kafka really worked in a universe of his own

i think i'll check out snow country, seems cool

oh and you should check out the dharma bums too, just make sure to get hold of a different copy than the one i read. reading it in english would probably be the wisest choice.
