SG or Les paul

Just bought a Fender Jaguar, and after using a shitty starter kit guitar since my Schecter Omen broke a few years ago the difference in quality in every aspect is unbelievable.

Which would be a better option as a first guitar, a Tele or a Mustang? I kinda want the mustang a bit more but I heard that you should get a hardtail if it's your first guitar and to my understanding the Mustang is not a hardtail while Teles are. Also would a Champion 100 be too much as a first amp, do you guys have any better suggestions? I don't want to have to buy a new one too soon.
Thanks

I see you have around 3k there in gear. You could have had pretty much the same experience spending only a fraction of that if you had gone for a SX Furrian and an Agile AL-1900. That's well under $400. Imagine getting all the saved money in god tier amps and pedals. You can buy a lot with $2.6k.

>if you say good stuff about Rondo you're a shill
I have some news for you mang, Rondo guitars are actually gud and well constructed. Tone comes mainly from the amp and pedals, and even in case you didn't like how your guitar sounds you could swap the pickups for the best ones you can get and it would be still cheaper.

Right lads, I need a new amp, looking for something that sounds like a bassman cranked but at bedroom levels. gotta be valve
>>
What's the point of a loop pedal when I could just use a daw?
>>
>>61530042
Mustang Standard is a hardtail stopbar/w tune-o-matic bridge. And it's nice for an American made under, $800. 100W is a lot, you won't be able to crank it. A Roland Cube is worth a look as a practice amp, Save for a valve amp.
>>
>>61531956
>Bassman cranked at bedroom levels
Doesn't exist. What you wrote doesn't really make sense. Any valve amp will have to be cranked loud-ass levels to get that power-tube saturation mate.
>>
>>61531911
I got a bd-2 which is pretty good
>>
>>61531962
Ergonomy. Lugging around a computer isn't very practical when you can just spend 80 bucks on a looper that fits in your pocket.

>>61531971
>Any valve amp will have to be cranked loud-ass levels to get that power-tube saturation mate.
Headroom usually depends on the wattage and how powerful the power amp is. Cranking a 1w amp isn't really neither hard or loud.
>>
>>61531911
I had a LMB-3 and it broke after a month

I also had a Boss power supply that I paid 20 bucks for like a retard and it ALSO broke

I suspect the two are related and it might be my fault but really I've never done anything but plug that shit in 120v outlets

In short, fuck Boss
>>
>>61531493
well you sure can't beat hurt for finger style blues. Good to see someone here who doesn't think the only kind of blues is Chicago. Skip James is your man. Lovely fills, and seriously inventive compositions for the time, a pioneer of open d-minor tuning, and preacher vocals. I can't play john hurt for my life. you should post some clips, tell /gg/ all about it.
>>
I want to get a decent shortscale elec between £100 - £300 maybe 400 if I really like it

Anyone got any ideas? I've always preferred smaller guitars since my first ever one was tiny
>>
>>61531911
Depends on the pedal itself. The HM2 is godly for death metal, even though it's probably useless everywhere else.

>>61532009
Squier Mustang, also I'm not sure about Danelectros scales.
>>
>>61531993
>Headroom usually depends on the wattage and how powerful the power amp is. Cranking a 1w amp isn't really neither hard or loud.
Obviously yeah, but there isn't really a 1w amp that'll sound like a Bassman cranked. A lot of those low wattage EL84 amps have a terrible breakup. If you want a bassman-"like" tone he'd wanna look into a 6l6 amp, lowest wattage variant I know though is a 35w combo which still gets ridiculously loud at 9 o'clock on the master vol, before you even get barely any power-amp saturation.
>>
>>61532009
jay turser mustang if you're willing to put a lot of work into it. The switches need grounding, and frets are as you would expect from that price. Pickups are shit. Bridge is nice though.
>>
>>61532089
How about using a volume pedal at its lowest point possible in the fx loop and cranking the amp ? How would that sound like ?

I'm not good enough at playing any John Hurt yet. I've been learning Joe Turner Blues and Let the Mermaids Flirt With Me.
Maybe once I can play them properly I'll record a sound clip of it if anyone is interested.
>>
>>61532152
>>61532245
I don't like him for the same reason I don't like Wooten

His tone is such that his shredding is just fret noise and not nice to hear at all. Sort of ruins the point of being a virtuoso and probably reinforces the bullshit popular opinion that bass solos suck.

He should take a page from Claypool's book
>>
>>61532309
i play guitar but i can't really think of any bass solos i actually like

the most i can handle is stuff like john paul jones on the lemon song, i think that's more impressive than any type of solo bass piece
>>
>>61532309
It fits when playing metal imo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PvGJn_MJhA
>>
>>61532322
I like that solo from pictures of home
>>
>>61532127
Most FX loops go between the preamp and the poweramp so a volume pedal would work like a master volume, wouldn't be able to push the tubes unless it was at high volume once again.

You COULD use an attenuator but I've yet to come across one that doesn't seriously color/shit on your tone and they happen to kill power transformers (also happen to be very expensive pieces of gear to buy)

You'd really be looking for a single, maybe dual channel amp with 6l6 powertubes, and you'd wanna push the fuck out of them, not many ways you can do it.
>>
>>61532237
tfw I can afford to feel that hybrid rainbow
>>
>>61532387
>>61532127
A compromise in the end would be an Overdrive pedal, depending what sorta sound you're going for there'd be one to match.
>>
>>61532387
i think eddie van halen used to do stuff like that

he'd fuck with the power source so he could crank the amp without it blowing everyone out of his room
>>
>>61532322
bass solos can't be approached like guitar solos and are easy to do wrong

somebody needs to pick up your slack since you're no longer exploiting your instrument's rhythmic properties. basically to compensate for the fact that you're lead now. could be the guitar switching parts/stopping altogether or the drummer playing more heavily.

here are some of my favorite examples of this at work

https://youtu.be/uE1zgrMdxBE?t=58s
https://youtu.be/FsDjr4iJBiA?t=5m7s
https://youtu.be/5NJZre-2QBE?t=3m29s

What happened there is EVH bought a 100v Marshall but it was actually set for 220v. He'd be able to crank the volume/drive getting the power amp saturation while it would stay just quiet enough to play smaller shows since it was running at half voltage.
>"On the dial you could crank it up to 140 volts or down to zero. So I figured, if it’s on 220 and it’s that quiet, if I take the voltage and lower it, I wonder how low I can go and it still work. Well, it enabled me to turn my amp all the way up, save the tubes, save the wear and tear on the tubes, and play at clubs at half the volume. So, my Variac, my variable transformer was my volume knob. Too loud, [makes knob turning sound] I’d lower it down to 50."

There was a myth for a while he made up where he said cranking it to 140v was what he did, which will actually fuck up your amp seriosuly.

>"I told people the complete opposite. I told them I raised it up 140 volts. I felt so bad. I felt so f—ing horrible, man. They said, “Please don’t attempt what Eddie Van Halen said in the last interview, because everyone was blowing their amps.” Everyone fried their amps ’cause of me. I felt so bad. I never lied again after that"

Of course this was all before amps had master volumes keep in mind so things are a bit different now.

Every time, after 3-4 months of changing the strings on my strat, the high e string starts making this weird ringing, warbling sound, that sounds similar to the sound you get when you raise a pickup too high. What do?
>>
>>61532714
pluck the string and see if its making the sound without an amp.

i had something similar, turned out the nut slot was too wide. if you hear buzzing above the nut, like a sitar type of resonating weird sound, your nut slot is too wide and you'll have to fill it.
>>
>>61532736
It sounds normal without an amp.
It's more audible on higher frets and when using higher gain settings and the bridge pickup.
I know this sounds like the pickup is raised too high, but the strings are 3 months old and I haven't touched any electronics on the guitar for years.

Tbh because of the internet and the wealth of information we have there aren't many companies around that can rip people off anymore so prices for things are pretty accurate to what the quality will be like.

Ultimately you get what you pay for. I'd say if you set up the agile to play very well I'm sure it's a fine guitar that you could use to gig. Just don't expect a custom shop guitar or anything.

This is coming from someone who likes budget guitars.

no one should advocate for that meme way of playing guitar
>>
>>61533400
I also play Sax as my main melody instrument. I don't even listen to any guitar music anymore, just play because I like to gig and (almost) all the gigs I get in Toronto are for bassists and guitarists

That was an example.

Double tapping arpeggios like you're trying to play the sweet melody of a crowded casino is boring, but when used melodically it's decent. Saying any technique is better than an other is dumb though.

IIRC Allan Holdsworth originally wanted to play sax, so I don't know it might lead to some good results.

And some finds, but I doubt that any of them are worth looking into:

Höfner bass from the 60s, solid body natural finish, no more information, one PU dead. 220€

Stag bass, with a generic hardcase, 100€

Tune Bass Maniac from 1990, 190€

Klira Bass from the 60s, 150€

I like the idea of having an old, beat up bass that I could mess around with and experiment on, but I'm not sure if any of those are worth the asking price.

Not having to fuck around with it is not something you should aspire to do. Don't try to make the guitar so easy, the difficultly of it is what makes a great player. I only know very basic music theory and I can figure out the chords and little lead melodies to most music I listen to in a matter of minutes just by knowing through ear training what key it's in. The rest will come naturally. Don't be one of those edgy music theory scholars who condescends himself and others with his technicality and intense focus on playing. Feel the music more than you try to "know" it.

>>
>>61536318
Loops are difficult to use.
Count the beats off in your head,
It goes like this for example:

1 2 3 4 *1* 2 3 4

First thing you shoudl do is play whatever it is you're going to loop and as soon as you come around the beginning of the next progression you start the pedal, then youd play until you get back to the "1"/the beginning of the next progression and press the pedal again. It's hard to describe it in words. The reason you play it a bit first before starting the looper is because if you try to begin playing and starting the pedal at the same time it's ALWAYS off.

It's not "ironic shitposting", it's being facetious to make a point. At the end of the day it's true for there are faggots here who compare Rondos to 2k guitar. Better to make their points and smash them from the start. Don't get me wrong though, there are scenarios where Rondos make sense. For example you're better off with a Rondo than with an Epiphone Special or a Squier Bullet.
