Merriweather Post Pavilion is the best album on that chart despite being one of Animal Collective's more mundane releases while every other album on there is like their respective band's magnum opus.

That's exactly what I said, but they're still not as good as Merriweather Post Pavilion, which is not nearly as good as Animal Collective's early-mid 2000's work. They're on the same level at best. Animal Collective decided to make a nice little psych pop album in the same vein as the Beatles and the Beach Boys.

Abbey Road is classified as a pop rock album, but has psychedelic underpinnings. Examples of this would be Come Together, I Want You (She's So Heavy), Because, and especially Sun King in particular. Every song, weather it's Something or Mean Mr. Mustard, is lushly produced and has multiple overdubs yielding its psychedelic feel.

MPP is the pefect combination of bleep and bloops with catchy pop melodies, production lush as fuck, intense psychedelic drone sections, GOAT opener, GOAT closer, GOAT single.

said... well there's that point (it's exaggerated but there's a lot of truth in it). anco has had the tools to make songs with wayyyy richer production than anything by the beach boys or the beatles... there has been 40+ yrs for them to draw more influences from. they also have two great songwriters (same for the beatles)... overall, their discography is much more consistent and wide ranging than anything the beatles or beach boys ever did (although for their time they were incredibly diverse in their music stylings... it's just that anco has been able to draw from a much wider range of music as influence and has had much better technology to create their stuff

Look man, I just don't care much for typical pop rock stuff, and they influenced/took influence from that sound a lot. They're great at it, I just don't care for it and prefer more contemporary sounding stuff with a wider pallette of tones and sounds to use.
