Official /mu/ Japanuary
It’s the start of a new year, and here at the /mu/ skype group, we have decided to try something entirely new: the first annual /mu/ Japanuary festival.
Here’s the basic idea:
>listen to one Japanese album a day
>come to the thread
>discuss it
Over the course of January, each we will listen to music from the glorious nation of Japan, and then come back to the thread to discuss, review, and chat about our listening experiences. We have made a listening calendar for the entire month (linked below), but we highly encourage all anons to make their own personalized charts for the month. If you don't have an album to listen to for a day, refer back to the original chart for suggestions. The idea is to expand your taste and hopefully find some new favorites in the process!
On the 31st of the month, we will do a listenalong of a secret album, most likely through dubtrack.fm or /mu/tant radio. The album will be revealed at the time of the listenalong, but not until then!
Below are the links for the main calendar and download links (on mega) to the albums on the chart. Also feel free to share any of your favorite Japanese albums, if you so desire.
sorry the thread went up late, i was asleep when it 404'd

Jeez what took you so long
Also >>61466256
No problem mate, glad you liked it. Like I said I can't find any of their singles so if any anon comes across them they'd be my god for a day.
If you're interested you can get their latest album from CDjapan. Mine came with an A4 poster and demo CDr while it wasn't even listed (which made my day obviously).
>>61466847
Sorry it took me so long, there were 50 posts left till bump limit, so i figured i could of slept, and i accidently slept in.
Also, how much did you pay for the album?
>>61467006
It falls under their special request service so with service fee, domestic and international shipping I think it was about 45 euros including postage. Definately worth it though.
Does anyone here like 44°+?

Bit curious what people think of this chart. I don't see most of these albums when jrock is discussed.
Listened to Ikue Mori's Painted desert today. I was expecting something more like Class Insecta, but it was more in the rock direction.
Here's my calendar.

Was pretty boring. I don't get the appeal.
>>61490964
Depends on what you like I guess. It's definately not as interesting as Ghost, but it's good simple fun nonetheless.
>>61491242
Maybe if I listened to it I'd learn to tell the difference between the tracks. Can't say I'm in a hurry, though.
>>61491853
listened to it more*
>Conga Fury - Bullshit Disaster
The shit-fi recording and high amount of noisy, speedy aggression is the type of shit I would come to expect of j-hardcore, but what I did not expect is that I would like it this much. I'm quite a fan of hardcore punk and some of its related genres (grindcore, nosiecore, etc), but the japanese usually impress me more with the slower, heavier, more psychedelic side of things (think Fushitsusha, LRD, even Flower Travellin' Band) and the things that edge towards punk and metal are kinda unimpressive to me by comparison.
Well, this one's not. Unlike Gudon, for example, the music here isn't too murky to make heads or tails of it and in fact it contains a lot of solid riffs, steady drumming, and idiosyncratic shouted vocals all happening at breakneck speed. This kind of music is all about energy and these guys have got the fucking energy, I love to hear this kind of stuff and love it even more to see this kind of stuff live (sadly barely get the opportunity, where is all the hardcore these days?). Pure numbskulled catharsis, which is quite ideal for me. This might not be the best hardcore out there, but it's certainly some of the more energetic shit. I recommend playing it loud when you have 10 minutes to spare and you need some dumb fucking guitar noise to fill your head when you are angry or just need to release some energy.
7.5/10
