Hey guys, I need some help.
I'm trying out for bass in a melodic metalcore band in a week or two. Not my kind of music but it sounds like a fun challenge. The issue is that I've never played anything like it before, and I have no idea where to start. I'm used to playing rock and funk stuff.
Any ideas on where to start? Good bands, basslines, exercises?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Know how to play a minor scale and tremolo pick
That's really about it
Aeolian, Lydian and lots of half tones will a sad melodic sound make

Love lydian mode already. But I definitely need a refresher course on minor and Aeolian modes.
Any basslines or bassists in particular I should be watching?
>melodic metalcore
literally the worst genre

As for bassists to emulate in metal, Steve DiGiorgio is probably your best option
But other than that, I don't really know. Watch some Botch bass covers or something

I don't think it's that bad. I like death metal more but I think I can have fun with it on bass.

He played for Death and Obscura, right? How well does that genre translate to melodic metalcore?

He played for Death and Sadus
Jeroen Paul Thesseling played for Obscura
The general melodic ideas of melodic death metal translate pretty well AFAIK
I'm no expert, I'm only a bass player

Alright, thanks. I've tried playing Cannibal Corpse before to no avail, but other than that I've never really played metal. I definitely need to emulate someone so DiGiorgio sounds like a good place to start.

It's not bad. It's a good way to make cash and keep doing music with a band so
