I pulled out a Charlie Hunter album last night, forgot how good this dude was. Not traditional bass playing as such, but still cracking shit.

even though he's mostly an rnb/funk bassist he played with miles during most of his electric career and he's in one of the greatest bass players of all time mostly because even though he has mad skill and he knows it he also knows when to unleash it and when to hold it back and just keep a goddamn groove (which is something a lot of "advanced" bass players nowadays have trouble doing)

jazz bass? or jazz bass guitar? they function in excessively different ways. if you want to play real nice jazz, learn upright. hard bop and free jazz, as well as everything before, does not sound right on electric bass.
