Cool band

When I discovered them a few years ago, I was mildly disappointed to realize how much of Montreal stole from them

Their period between Introducing Sparks and In Outer Space is superb

Really good period. Wish the band was more well-known though
>>
How was their collab with Franz Ferdinand?
>>
>>61338169
I liked it.There's only like 1 or 2 songs I didn't care for, but I don't regret buying the album

I hear them in Hot Chip every goddamn time
i've completely stopped listening to electronic artists that cite them as influences because I just hear Sparks now

>>61337161
Its a goddamn shame they're not more famous

>>61338169
It was okay imo, there were some great songs, but it seems like the whole thing ended with regret for Franz or something. It isn't helpful that their fanbase is kind of shitty either.

i'm dumping my ron folder now

I really want it on Vinyl but I know thats basically impossible at this point.

i've kept ride 'em cowboy on repeat forever these days

I have to thank /mu/ for getting me into them honestly, such an underrated gem they are.

I've never listened to any of their albums, and the only song I know is "This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us", which I found mildly enjoyable. Where do you think I should start?

They have so much music it almost feels impossible to make a chart guide but i'll give you my recommendations:

At Home, At Work, At Play - Propaganda
Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth - Propaganda
Amateur Hour - Kimono My House
La Dolce Vita - No.1 In Heaven
Beat The Clock - No.1 In Heaven
When I'm With You - Terminal Jive
Upstairs - Whomp That Sucker

I would listen to the entirety of Angst In My Pants and L'il Beethoven, everything else is kind of a hit or miss depending on your taste. I hate that everyone likes 'This Town' because it definitely was not the song that got me into them, Amateur Hour was, but I stayed because their early 80s work was really good.

good luck anon, if it were me, i'd listen to Amateur Hour and then go straight to Angst In My Pants and listen to it in its entirety

Kimono My House and the 2 albums after that. After those, check out their first two albums. No. 1 in Heaven's amazing too. If I had to pick my favorite of theirs, it would probably be Indiscreet
>>
I was introduced to them due to their collaboration with Franz Ferdinand. I'll have to look into them more. Just out of curiosity, op, are you Scottish?

I personally wanted to love Indiscreet so bad, the only ones that stood out to me were Pineapple and Happy Hunting Ground

I couldn't imagine a better collaboration between bands, but FFS sounds so much more like Franz than Sparks (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) but its hard to describe what Sparks' sound really is like through FFS.
I wish you luck anon (also i'm not OP)

One of my favorite bands. Ron has a certain way of writing that I can't quite explain- but it's very engaging and funny. He loves using unreliable narrators, cliche, and mock drama. With lots of pre-1960s references. But it never turns to "joke song" territory. I dunno how he does it. Also, Russell delivers his lines so fucking perfectly weirdly.

Listenin to Grat Sax lately

I totally agree. It never turns jokey or cringey I love it.

Early on in my discovery, people would tell me to listen to certain Sparks albums and I would just oblige because Russell Mael's voice is god-tier (even if it can't do that ridiculous falsetto anymore)
Its enough to convince me to listen to something by them.

Their new song (Final Derriere) is a little cringey though I guess. But I digress.

Also Grat Sax is a GREAT album 8.5/10 easily
