Isn't Mario for young children? Not a gamer so I don't know these things.

Mario is one of those series that people of pretty much any age can enjoy. In fact some of them are very challenging (especially the earlier ones). They have been consistently innovative and creative.

Miyamoto was smart by not letting anyone give Mario games a heavy focus on story or voice acting. Mario has had a voice since 1996 with Mario 64, but he never went beyond saying things like "Yahoo!" or "it's a Me! Mario!", he doesn't have lines of dialogue and remained a silent character for the most part.
By doing this, Mario remained appealing for all kind of ages, since he has a classic sort of feel to him and not "just for little kids". His games are still pick up and play, you don't have to put up with long cutscenes of Mario and the gang doing disney-tier skits.
By the way, this is probably the best arranged soundtrack I've heard from a video game.
It goes beyond just being a good arranged vidya album, it's an actually nice jazz record on its own
