>"No one is educated musically until they've heard Pet Sounds (...)" ~Paul McCartney

What do you think about this quote and this album?
>>
You're trying to make beach boys fans look bad, right?
>>
>>61320150
Not right.
>>
great album regardless of what that talentless hack has to say about it
>>
I agree with Brian saying that this is not musically conceptual album or lyrically conceptual album, but production-wise conceptual album. The innovations in production this album brought are huge and I will forever love it because of that.
>>
>>61320135
I recognise the impact it had in most of bands of today and back then, specially The Beatles, but I don't personally like Pet Sounds
>>
phenomenal album
>>
At the end of "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" the titular line along with the instrumentation loops and descends each time.

Very cool little detail
>>
>>61320363
this desu
>>
gay dad-core album, only has simple-mooded shit like "wouldnt it be nice"
>>
>>61320135
Well, in terms of modern music, B. Wilson is like Mozart of modern music so I would agree with that quote, everyone should listen to it for better musical education.
>>
>>61320362
What innovations did it do? Not being a dick im just asking.
>>
>>61320135
Pet Sounds is the greatest album of all time.

My God...

XD, right?
>>

I doubt you've read all of those desu

Pet Sounds is just the Spector Wall of Sound again
>>
>>61321216
>Pet Sounds is just the Spector Wall of Sound again

Nobody is saying it isn't, but Brian Wilson perfected it.
>>
>>61321131
not even the best beddles album
>>
>>61321216
not him but just because Brian was inspired by Spector's maximalist multi-tracked approach doesn't mean that there's no difference between layering the guitar part five times vs. arranging your pop song for french horn, cow bell, mouth harp, haprsichord, and banjo
>>
>>61320135
I agree with Sir Paul on this one
>>
>>61320740

heh no

I think its right. Per sounds is great
>>
I wish every kiss was never-ending
>>
>>61320135
He probably meant to say musically as in psyche rock only. Never heard McCartney play jazz or blues.
>>
>>61321131
Haha
I can get side 2 but side 1 is horrifyingly bad
>>
>>61321131
the A-Side of Abby Road is the worst of any Beatles record
>>
>>61321261
The difference is frankly minimal, and your description of Spector's technique is reductive anyway

>>61321333
Pet Sounds is not psych rock

>>61321354
>>61321375
No

Smile > this album
>>
>>61321534
The tonal cohesiveness is a spectacle
Even though its been edited for almost 50 years, the way the suites are tied together is simply amazing.
>>
>>61321640
The suite format is shit though. An invention of Darian Sahanaja for BWPS. The original Smile was going to be a normal LP.
>>
>>61321354
>>61321375
Side B is the shit side, come on guys

Hey John Lennon

Considering Mozart was a hack, i totally agree.

that quote is from 1990 ...
>>
it's legitimately hilarious when a genuinely good album gets spammed over and over and you slowly see /mu/ turn against it just out of contrarian spite
>>
>no one is educated musically until they've heard Pet Sounds
This statement is the equivalent to the statement first place makes sports to put forth humility. It's merely good sportsmanship. Artists practice artifice all the time, everything they utter is not wholesomely truthful kek. Great album, yet not on the sole account of Wilson. Much more would need to be mentioned.
>>
>>61324301
yeah, /mu/'s hivemind mentality would be really interesting for a psychological study
>>
>>61324573
I belive it's because it's hard for them to accept that the beach boys made such an influential album while the rest of thier discog is "forgettable", it is a rather uncommon anomaly
>>
>>61324668
it's not really forgettable though. their early surf stuff made a gigantic impact on rock and roll at the time, and brian's songwriting influenced tons of artists outside of pet sounds.

i'd say even the unreleased smile was very influential
>>
>>61324769
Ah but you speak about the untrained ear and untrained mind. However, murderer or not, Spector should get much credentials.
>>
>>61320702
edgy you m8

cant people dig simple stuff?

personally am a huge fan of this album, lets not turn this into a debate about x is better than y because z
>>
>>61320702
>"Wouldn't it be nice"
>key change within first ten seconds
>polytonal bassline
>massive shift in tempo before bridge
>several other key changes throughout
>simple-mooded shit

Fuck off.
>>
Phil Spector imitation
>>
Really a L E G E N D A R Y album. Everything is so perfect about it.
>>
>>61320135
how many times do I have to listen to it to be educated? legit question btw
>>
>>61320135
pet sounds is okay. Every list says it's impressively arranged, but I really think it just has good choruses and harmonies.
>>
Pet Sounds is nice. Smiley Smile too.
>>
>>61320135
I hate the fucking mixing on this album. Only good songs are let's go away for a while and I know there's an answer
