music is just recorded layers of instrumentation (manipulated or otherwise). Classical music is just very meticulously arranged layers of instruments. But if you peel back each instrument, you get to a simple core idea... like every other fucking song ever. Grow up.

Not really. Been a hip-hop head my entire life. I've grown to listen to more genres and expand my tastes, he'll at this point I probably listen to more folk and jazz than hip-hop, but it still has a special place in my heart.
Also, rock is a shit genre for plebs to show off saying "dude I'm only 12 and I love ACDC and Led Zepplin xDDD" (I realize that's cherry picking but I'm not using those examples to represent the genre).
Either way, at the end of the day, if you care whether or not your tastes are pleb or patrician, you're a fucking pleb who should go back to Reddit.

obviously there's a ton of music that lacks any real depth, and classical music is typically very successful at achieving some sort of sonic catharsis, but at the end of the day it's just layers. The only time a classical piece is truly different than modern music (in which "arranging" is again more prevalent than "songwriting") is when it's performed as a solo piece. But that has more to do with the performance aspect than the music itself.
