Hey /mu/. I'm trying to get into death metal (also just metal in general) but I'm not sure where to start. Can anyone recommend some good albums for someone just starting out?
In the meantime I'll post these Sesame Street memes
what's the point, you're just going to trash it all once you graduate middle school

Fair point, but I'm still interested in what people have to say

if you're starting with metal in general, start with the big four of thrash metal
if you want specifically death metal, check out Death - Leprosy, Obituary - Cause of Death, and Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten

Thanks, checking them out now

Also Entombed - Left Hand Path, Pestilence - Consuming Impulse, and Purgatory Afterglow - Edge of Sanity
Might as well just start with death since they sound like thrash bands like slayer
Start with Slipknot (middle school core, beware), lamb of god - wrath, >also check out burn the priest for blacker sound, mayhem -mysteriium, then just use last.fm and metal thread and go with it
I'm liking Death - Leprosy so far

My goddamn nigga. Three god-tier albums right there. Other guy did a good job at US essentials, but these recs are perfect.

I'll have to check them out
Cryptopsy - None So Vile
I think you would really enjoy some instrumental tech/prog like Exivious

If you're looking for death metal where it's easy to see how it developed from thrash I would start with Death and Obituary
If you're interested in old school brutal shit I would go for early cannibal corpse, suffocation, gorguts and maybe even earlier cattle decapitation
If you're looking for crazy musicianship I would recommend Annihilation of the Wicked by Nile, Epitaph by Necrophagist and Nihility by Decapitation (note: different band than cattle decapitation but lol at metal band names in general amirite?)
I don't listen to a whole lot of death, but you might try Amon Amarth (I would recommend Destroyer of the Universe, Twilight of the Thunder God, Blood Eagle, A Beast am I). I personally prefer folk/viking metal and black metal.
My headphones unplugged and I didn't know it. Just about shit my pants when I pressed play and death metal blared out of my speakers and not my headphones

Holy shit! Whoever drums for Nile is a fucking machine.
OP here, this is probably gonna be my last post of the night. No amount of metal can stop this train from heading to sleepy time junction. Thanks to all who contributed, I've wrote down your recs, I'll check them out tomorrow. Good night
black>>>>>>>>>>>>>>death
First true death metal album is Scream Bloody Gore by Death, check that one out. There's some good charts for the genre floating around so it shouldn't be too hard to get into
