Does a band with a flawless discography exist? Pavement is the closest I've been able to find.
>>61308375
I'm going to assume that releasing one album then breaking up doesn't count for the purposes of this thread
>>61308399
i think it ought to
Minor Threat
And it's all on one disc.
>>61308375
No, because flawless albums don't exist.
>>61308375
Terror Twilight was kinda weak even though it had one of their best ever songs (Cream of Gold)
The Beatles
What do you mean by flawless? All 10/10 albums or no bad albums?
jimi hendrix experience
>>61308375
Killing Joke
17 studio albums. The worst is Outside the Gate which is still a 6/10. Most are solid 7's. With some 8's, 9's, and a 10. Best discography I can think of.
>>61308462
Yea Cream of Gold is the shit
>>61308399
They haven't broken up technically.
>>61308458
>Squeeze
inb4 not a VU album
Elliott Smith
Unwound is pretty close. All of their records are at least good tier.
ex-girl
Unwound has the most perfect discography ever.
Every album is at least a solid 9.
easy
pretty impressive given their age and the rapid clip they worked at
>>61308506
if put it in the context of a Doug yule solo album
it's not bad
>>61308531
Counterexample
>>61308506
not a VU album
portishead
>>61308552
>only 3 full lengths
i don't think it really counts for that reason, and the time span. they were just a really fucking tight band that got cut short, and tragically.
Obviously

Fugazi
Unwound
Joy Division
The Smiths
Portishead
Boogie Down Productions
Nick Drake
This Heat
Outkast
If we're counting bands with small discogs, Nirvana
satisfying as hell
>>61309537
Compton was shit though
ELO
the jeff solo albums that are called ELO albums dont count
>>61309110
pop punk mixed with cabaret music is never good
Off Minor, Sweet Trip and Unwound come to mind.
Coil
at least if you go by their official full-lengths there was no real stinker
Circa Survive has never put out a bad album
>>61309669
true
backwards was a bit below the usual level of quality but I don't think that really counts
Maybe the Beastie Boys. They have some albums that are better than others, but every album displayed growth and was an interesting listen.
The Beatles, Panic! at the Disco, Blur, and Gorillaz
>>61309798
To The 5 Boroughs is pretty mediocre

I love boris but their discography is not perfect at all, there's some forgettable/mediocre albums (Absolutego, Vein, New Noise Literacy, a couple of the Solomon albums)

Yanqui UXO is mediocre at best, nothing compared with the rest of GY!BE's discography

It's actually my favorite GY;BE album. Reminded me a lot of Starless era King Crimson. Are we going to keep this up all night?
>>61309110
Even lowering to pop punk standards their recent work is atrocious.
>>61310954
I can understand your taste dude, my favorite GY!BE is Alleluyah!

Nah. A Fever You Can't Sweat Out is my guilty pleasure album, but the rest of their discography is shite. I've tried to like it, but can't get into most of it.
>>61311206
If you think Sonic Youth have a flawless discography I would suggest you seek medical attention soon.
>>61309937

Maudlin of the well, the four records are perfect
>>61311206
Nah there's some shit sonic youth stuff out there. The simple fact that the SYR stuff exists proves that they're not flawless
I don't think any band can have a discography of pure 10/10s unless they're a one off act. So I will assume you mean a discography that has more than one LP or EP in which every recording merits a listen.
I will give some answers that I do not believe have been posted already:
>Coil
>Fishmans (even their early era succeeds as dubby pop music)
>Have a Nice Life
>Slint
>Miles Davis
>John Coltrane

BUNGLE

Kanye West. Nothing below a 7/10.
>>61312814
how can that be true if all his albums are garbage :^)
>not posting Aphex Twin
Stay Plebian
>>61310571
Yanqui U.X.O. is an album that has to grow on you when you realize it's not meant to be like anything else Godspeed has ever put, or be "good" in the way other godspeed albums are. Speaking as someone who god the vinyl for christmas, I can't easily describe when or why it clicked. It's just sad in an all-consuming way, sad in a way you only can be when you're watching bombs fall from a distance. It'll click one day annon.
>>61312899
>Boogie
Man, I love that guy. He found a way to make money off viraling stuff with the fat nerd stereotype.

Alice in Chains
The closest to flawless tbqh. Their 'worst' album is probably TDPDH, which is really still a very good album.
I guess you could also kind of count Jerry Cantrell's solo albums as well which are both fucking incredible. A bad song does not exist in AiC/JC catalogue, at worst, merely 'good'.
Also:
Dire Straits
The Police
Tool
Jimi Hendrix Experience
Queens of the Stone Age
Mastodon if not for The Hunter
Soundgarden if not for King Animal
>>61308375
Fugazi
Botch
>>61310390
>Kayo Dot
Nah, but motW does
>Dirty Projectors
All albums offer a different take on rock music, ranging from bizarre lo-fi, folk, to orchestral music, to African guitar rock
>The Microphones
No explanation needed
>The Beatles
>>61312973
Fugazi has one of the best discographies out there and knew how to permutate a genre and grow as a band. Experimented and still kicked ass
My Bloody Valentine
This Heat
YYU
Coil
Hala Strana (though not Steven R. Smith as a whole)
Roland Kirk
Colin Stetson
Daisuke Tobari
Syzygys
Feel free to disagree with the ones listed below:
Ground Zero
Emptyset
Foetus
Death Ambient

SWISH When?
Big Star is the obvious choice for me, but it's a bit cheap because they only have three "real" albums. I don't count the fourth one because it's essentially an entirely different band. Japanese folk group Happy End also has a discography where every album is close to 10/10, but they also only have 3.
>>61308485
This. Solid fucking discog
>>61313088

their discog is very diverse so a lot of people will disagree but i like all of their albums and most ep's
Olivia Tremor Control (most E6 bands actually)
>>61308442
I don't know if that counts as an album, because many of those songs were released separately.

>>61314420
i fucking adore grouper but some of her songs on the extremely soft, ambient albums don't catch me. not to say they're bad, just not strong. i know her music isn't meant to be catchy so i don't really know how to put it. i guess some stuff just feels one in the same, whereas most of it is very distinct and connected just by atmosphere and emotion.
i honestly find it v hard to critique grouper at all because i respect her and love a few of her albums so much.
