look at the aoty chart. You're not alone.
>>
>HARD
>Lemonade
>Vyzee
>Bipp

Those tracks are the most instrumentally innovative songs to come out of the 21st century.
>>
>>61306036
i love it too

Dude...
>>
>>61306408
oh my...
>>
>>61306216
Exactly this. it was an interesting mix with the bubblegum vocals
>>
>>61306408
damn...
>>
>>61306216
Especially that pitch shift the vocals do near the end of Vyzee. It just works so well.
>>
>>61306036
Nah m8 if you like anything on numbers then you have good taste.
>>
>>61306036
don't worry you'll get bored of it soon. i like it but something about their music atm wears off fast then I go back listening to /bleep/ garage/jungle shit

It's just dressed up ear candy
>>
Easily some of my favorite music at the moment
You are not alone OP
>>
>>61306216
do people really believe this?
>>
>>61306408
:O
>>
>>61306839
No reason not too, unless there's something more innovative around.
>>
>>61306839
yeah they do. just ignore them. they'll get tired of being pseudo-intellectuals in a couple months

it's funny how pc music can get away with this shitj ust by gfoty's dad being in the industry and A.G. and hannah having friends who are journalist.
fucking william wright works for fucking complex magazine
>>
>>61307035
>being an artist whose family works in journalism makes music bad

Nice.
>>
>>61306916
Sophie is just doing to synthpop, poprap and edm-pop what dean blunt did to 'indie' pop and it works alot worse
I consider it to be a sort of next wave of vaporwave more than anything else
>>
>>61307158
>synthpop, poprap and edm-pop
Nobody has ever fused these forms of music together before.

>indie' pop
There must be countless acts that have been making this music genre for decades now.
>>
>>61307268
look
just listen to sophie's LOVE
and dean blunt's country. it'll make sense for u after that
back 2 back right now

Combined them together to create something new like SOPHIE has. Obviously tons of people have made music for those individual genres.
>>
>>61307376
yeah dean blunt does the same thing
>>
>>61307317
They do sound extremely similar, but LOVE is the worst track on Product. Tons of people have made noise music, but the sound of LOVE is a minority on Product. Tracks like Hard, Bipp, Vyzee, and Lemonade aren't unsequential noise tracks that offer no pleasant characteristics, unlike LOVE.
>>
>>61306216
It's not even the most innovative project of this year and 'genre'
first thing of this year that comes in my mind that blows SOPHIE the fuck out and has the same sound:
euglossine - complex playground
>>
>>61307486
not about the track. the concept both of them are parodying the genres that influence them. but it has this vaporwave (just for terms sake) feel to it. where they are slowing, speeding, pitching the original genre. into something undefined

also funny how fantano gave both black metal and product the same score.

How old are you all? This shit is so basic and you're calling it the "most innovative instrumental" whatever the fuck.

Seriously do you listen to music?

how is this basic and what derivatives have sprung forth in order to consider it such?
>>
>>61308134
It's basic pop sound just with more stilted rhythms and some parallel harmonies.
Do you listen to exclusively mucore? I'm curious.
>>
>>61308193
no, i'm a bleep faggot

i think it's interesting at the very least. i don't think it's the most cerebral or challenging shit out there, but it's certainly not "basic."

TL;DR an insane PC Music fan is submitting this (to none other than Robert Christgau) as their final paper at a $60,000 a year university
>>
>>61308269
It's not the most important innovation for the 21st century.
>>
>>61307084
kek
>>
>>61308297
no one said it was particularly important. they said it was innovative, which i can't really disagree with.

it's certainly meant to be treated in a very "post-ironic" way, right?
that's largely the premise behind a lot of art from that section of the tumblr crowd.

I used to be a part of it five years ago or so haha,
even got to exhibit art in paris and sthlm.
but I was 19, my stuff was derivative, style over substance and I lacked technique.
the whole thing was shallow and just fed my ego at the time
I opted out,
stopped creating art to suit that crowd and stopped posting on tumblr lol, as I simultaneously went from leftism to nihilism.

w/e.

I really like JUST LIKE WE NEVER SAID GOODBYE, it's just a solid pop track for me.
>>
>>61307158
every single song on Sophie's album was released in 2012-2013 tho
>>

got any examples or tips how somebody can get into that section
sounds like fun,

I started by following loads of tumblrs
and just started reblogging the stuff I liked
slowly I started getting an eye for visual art in a way I had not had before
my taste was "refined" if you will.

you do have to like that whole 90's style as well ofc if you want to be a part of that particular crowd.
your taste has to suit their's and so on, and I wouldn't really fake it if I was you.

it was always honest for me, as in, I liked the art I created and the pictures I reblogged.
but I also knew that others liked it.
but the stuff I posted was a bit more eclectic than most of theirs,
I actually do think I was more honest in what I posted, and less stylistically fixated. I just posted what I liked.

but here are a few different examples of tumblrs I followed, that could point you in the "right" direction if you want to be apart of that group.
not all are active:

http://dismagazine.tumblr.com/ ofc, very related to PC music, but the tumblr seems inactive

this year's boiler room set by A.G. Cook is just as catchy and maybe more boundary pushing. I really wish either p4k or fantano would treat it like an album or make an exception to review it so at least I'd be able to talk about it here
>>61306216
>no L.O.V.E.
>>
>>61308893
All of these are made to fit one individual music genre without incorporate other genres to form anything new or innovative.

First link is purely synth wave, which is decades old Second link places rap verses over electro music, which isn't innovative because rap is from the '70s and electro came into existence in the '80s. Third link is shitty pop rock. Fourth link is someone singing over a piano, which is centuries old.

None of the songs you posted have the dynamic song structure or instrumental complexity that Product has.
>>
>>61309739
thx i'll continue ur legacy anon
>>
>>61309739
but when it comes to the pseudo-intellectual concepts behind it,
then one tip is to play with putting digital things into the real world.
manipulating photographs and so on,
yet maintaining that "post-ironic" style they have.

if you look at all their stuff you will probably get a basic understanding of their thing in a broader way.

I could not do it anymore because I've left that way of thinking, and partly even the liking for that particular visual style, long behind. gn.
>>
>>61309856
L.O.V.E. is everything on Soundcloud, but with high pitched vocals over it. EDM trap is obnoxious, so I don't like it.

Has anyone tried shoving that thing sold with the physical copy up their ass yet

Thanks haha will definitely look at them tomorrow.
Just wanted to say one thing before I sleep,
original content that gets spread always gets you more followers of course.
But don't whore out, focus on quality over too much of that ironic lo-fi shit.
You want to stay on the right side of that fence.
I kept my blog a mix of that hyper modern pc music stuff and modernist, impressionist and so on, stuff.
It's all about taste, it may sound lame, but it's true.

I liked to throw in left field pictures such as glossy porno photos that fit my aesthetic taste.
Showing that everything could be aestheticized. That beauty can be found everywhere.

Good luck anon, I hope you find some of that beauty and that you wreck some havoc.
And thanks for the playlists one again.

I can see how the rudimentary and sparse ideas that you see around soundcloud could be likened to SOPHIE, but the fact he makes full-fledged songs out of them is a huge step
