yeah kpop is much like listening to mainstream western pop. People listen to these artists for their clothes, humor, lyrics, looks and dance numbers. Not really their music.
I'm sure if I were korean I'd know more groups but that's the only good one I know living across the world

The fucked up thing about kpop is that some people pretend that it's not idol culture.
In japan the idol culture is fucked up with AKB48 and all that, but no one really pretends that they are anything but idols and no one sees them as artists. But with kpop you have the idol culture mixed in with mainstream pop music and people actually see them as artists. All they do is lip sing to a song they didn't write, doing dance moves they didn't make while wearing some costume they didn't design. They are basically there to look good and make lonely people fall in love with them by acting cute, which is fucked up.
