As someone who loved a lot of the music from the 80s, I'd like to hear you defend it. Since hardcore punk and no wave bred tons of lo-fi garage bands, I'd say that talent was extremely difficult to pinpoint. It seems that making music became extremely accessible and allowed technically-deficient bands like The Germs to exist. Of course, bands like The Ex started with poor music skills and developed them over time, but during that decade, it seemed bands were popping up in direct spite of their lack of skill.
