Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Outside of the obvious stuff (Deep Medi, DMZ, Lion Charge, Tectonic, Bandulu, Black Box, Hotline, Hyperdub, Hessle, Keysound, Osiris, Hemlock etc.) I can't really think of any others.

Thing is why do you need it compact, digital you can just get a 320 rip our even better. a mp3 player will already do the job, vinyl records is truly the most /bleep/ way to collect tunes.

this is why imo i frown on buying digital audio and Cd's cause for the same money you can get the tune on vinyl.

Sup bruvs, im new to these threads and new to dnb
been listening to some old tracks and i come across the term "2-step" does this refer to the drum pattern? these tracks in particular:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxMrtd_mEfU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk5Cr2YGkRI&list=PLv0TPbSi-rOAdJ0dbIN8ZXt7_W4FCUQ49

2step does refer to a drum pattern but not in D&B, it's used more for UK Garage and sounds like this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWKJtKk81Qc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_uggscguzs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT4CG3d2UOQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZHLv7ZlRoM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6e1FR2BQOQ
I forget which track it was exactly but a Dem 2 remix of some R&B track might have been the first proper 2step style Garage whereas everything before that was more Garage House the likes of Todd Edwards and Grant Nelson.

The tracks you've posted are (in order) Jungle, new Neurofunk and old Neurofunk.

A similar kind of drum pattern to 2step was used in this Omni Trio track however.

Drum patterns in breakbeat tracks tend to be organised by which break they are sampling. The break in Tudor Rose is from James Brown - Tighten Up and is used in quite a lot of Techstep tracks (which would later become Neurofunk).

Tighten up was also used with the Amen Break and the break in Model 500 - Flow (Alex Reece Remix) to make something called the Tramen break which for a while became the main drum pattern in Techstep and Neurofunk until Ed Rush & Optical started taking it in a different direction.

ive heard about the tramen break before, didn Dom+Roland make it originally? to me the tramen and the breaks in my tracks sound a little different. the ones trace has have a lot of hi-hats between the kick and snare or whatever you call them (i know fuck all about beats and drums). your comment about ed rush takin the beat and changin it makes sense tho. Autmation and Mystery Machine breaks sound a lot cleaner Like, Automation only has kick-snare-kick-snare pattern and i like that more than i like regular dnb beats. Got any more recs?
>>
>>61294449
Yeah Dom made it. To be fair the tracks you've posted are the type of drums used before and then after the Tramen became popular; one influenced it and the other was influenced by it.

Neurofunk when it first was a thing took Techstep elements and started focus less on making fancy and fast sound break patterns to focus much more on the stabs over the bassline with more minimal breakbeats. Over time the focus continued to shift over over engineering the bassline as Neurofunk became what it is today (which is mostly shit).

Everyone hails Womrhole as the first Neurofunk LP (which sounds like that kind of D&B you like) but I would say Torque is better and has evidence of that change in sound from Techstep to Neurofunk on it.

And if you like Ed Rush & Optical then you'll like Stakka & Skynet, they are easily amongst the GOAT producers in the genre and their sound progressed much in the same ways as Ed Rush & Optical's did.

Same with Dom & Roland as well obviously. Pretty much anyone who worked with Nico ended up sounding the same.

thanks
and i agree, most of the current neurofunk is shit. imho (not to shit on BFE, theyre one of my fav groups) it started with BSE's Lights & Wires LP where the tracks sounded overproduced and everyone else followed
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f5wifEDjG4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o84SxApx4sk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yW63QXIDAyM#t=37m20s

And i love Stakka & Skynet, actually i love the whole Audio Blueprint catalogue. I love the sci-fi space vibes their tracks give. I associate them with the times i used to play System Shock 2
>>
>>61294853
BSE are one of my favourites as well and they had a spectacular return to form with From The Shadows (fucking hell that came out 3 years ago). I actually think Noisia are more responsible for this trend of overproducing D&B since there was a point when they were unanimously the best producers around and they kept trying to push their own sound to keep that reputation and it ended up with some pretty sub-standard tracks. That whole phase in Neurofunk was like Brostep in that people stopped caring about making decent tracks and were focus more on "hey check how much sawtooth is on this bassline bro" instead. And with the exception of From Deep Space and Under the Ice, the genre never really picked up again to the heights it had at the turn of the millennium. Noisia deciding to focus on really shitty House and Phace soon following suit didn't help things.

I really like Audio Blueprint as well, probably more than Virus Recordings but not as much as No U-Turn (the label which was essentially responsible for this whole sound).

It's not really the same but Bad Company used to produce a few tracks that were a bit like that sort of 00 style D&B.
