Reminder that all of your music related opinions are entirely subjective :^)
I'm ok with this because I value my own subjective likes and dislikes and don't need to validate my likes and dislikes with obnoxious "objectivity"
yeah, what's your point, frog man?
NO THEY'RE NOT

Well, I feel subjectivity is often abused, though, without a true acknowledgement of its implications
Because with that also comes the acceptance that different music fulfills different purposes; some music (Grimes, most pop in general) fulfills the role of "entertainment" whereas other, more avant-garde and forward thinking music attempts to fulfill the artistic role. If we take the traditional meaning of art to mind, what we can say is that the latter is meant to bring across a concept or ideal which may have been previously unknown to the listener, whereas the former appeals to the listener's intrisinc sense of aesthetics
That being said, one is not superior to the other. They are each necessary in their contexts, but I feel the main source of arguments and dissent comes from people trying to shove entertainment into an artistic realm and vice versa
Anyway, just my two cents. I wanna hear what people think about that
Reminder that ur gay and adopted.

Taste isn't

"artistic"
no.

i think it can be risky to imply that any artist who makes pop music doesn't do so with the intent of positing novel concepts or ideals. i think the creative process is at least similar between pop music producers and art music producers. it is obvious when someone tries to cash in on either style, though.
moneygrab vs. art to me is like porn. you know it when you see it.

That's true, there is a degree of intuition to it
But we can all agree that Top 40 and the like are not meant for the purpose of any exploration, but to appeal to people's general enjoyment. Again, nothing wrong or "inferior" with that, it's just a different means to a different end

nowhere is he saying that's the case. that'd be impossible, can you imagine music being made that doesn't involve some sort of concept? even if we're just talking random notes, or no sound whatsoever, there's a concept at the base.
what Abelian is talking about is what something finds to be more important, creating candy that simply dissolves and is sweet, or something that invokes actual concepts. it's about what is focused on, not what is there.
actually I can admit I listen to a lot of shitty/annoying music. haters can hate
