To be honest this didn't become my favorite album until I listened to the audio book that it was released alongside. It's a hazy, difficult to follow part of a larger story that I can't quite piece together, and I think that mystery draws me in even more, searching for the meaning behind the lyrics, as well as the other albums that make up this universe.
As for the music, it's rather space rock/prog inspired, some tinges of post rock, and a few off putting breakdowns and atmospheric meanderings. It's rather bombastic music with artistic tendencies.
For a band that was releasing terrible Christian post grunge 10 years ago, I am very impressed with everything they've done lately.
It's an interesting mix: Angela Hewitt is widely acclaimed, the first choice in modern Bach interpretation. Faure is among the last in famous, late19thearly20th century French composers (certainly in terms of piano music). The two shouldn't mesh at all. And yet somehow, Hewitt really gets the music. She plays it with this carefree, emotional flow that at once sounds distinctly French but also you can discern the German; she finds Bach in this tuneful yet contrapuntally brilliant music.
