I might have to side with OP a little bit. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is not a "overrated piece of shit" but it's not "the best album of all time" good. The first time listening to this album is like your first kiss, it was magical and enchanting but you've had better kisses. ITAOTS is a beatitude piece of music that will be culturally significant, I guarantee it. The lyrics and meaningful and the instrumentals are fun and quirky. The whole album flows nicely but it still isn't perfect. There are some tracks that feel weak. Lots of people I know find Jeff's voice to be a little weird.
I feel like my love for the is album is a very biased love because anyone who's listened to the album says it's the best. My opinion will be forever tainted because of all the praise. That what makes it overrated, the fact that we think it's better than it is. There have been times where I the album didn't click with me. Still, do I love this album? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes. But is it overrated. Yes?

I can't listen to it without it trying to come off as "deep" or trying to convey some sort of nuanced idea, people treat it that way too, I don't like vocals, or lyrics, the rest is okay I suppose, but I can't for the life of me understand why it gets so much praise, in my opinion it's mediocre at best.
