Flying Vs are pretty much a metal guitar AFAIK that was James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett's main instruments back in the day. I think most of the classic Metallica tracks were recorded using those.

Well...they have a very metallic tone to them. A lot of bluesmen like BB King favored warmer sounds than what Albert King liked.
I like both for different reasons. I like the feel of my strat more but the sound is just so thin it sounds terrible most of the time. I need to put some humbuckers in it. My '73 les paul deluxe doesn't feel quite as comfortable to me but the sound is amazing.
