>barely anyone had internet and if you did it was slow
That's what made it so great. You could get it, and fairly easily at that, but it required more time and effort to get and use. As a result, it was used in moderation, so it complimented the lives of its users (and society overall), rather than ruled over it like it does today.

There is literally nothing beneficial overall about the internet being so fast and common today except for a couple of things (music and video streaming services). The negatives far outweigh the positives.

Arguably the best era for the internet was 1999-2005 or so. Fast internet was easy to get but it was just before we had the mass influx of normies using the internet for more than sending e-mails and IMs on AOL.

Seriously just look at all the shitty memes we have now. The internet has been around for ages yet all of these fucking retards are acting like it's some new amazing hilarious incredible technology.

I'm using the internet since 1998. It was a shit era. Now when you can find/download tons of quality content in a matter of seconds, people are complaining? s m h

I Care Because You Do was one of Aphex Twin's most consistent albums yet. Sure, he may not beat them in quantity, but in quality Richard's got Autechre on the run.
>>
>>61146014
>how much less commercialized everything was
It was less commercialized and more naive but let's not forget that the advertisers abused the system. I remember the tons of popups, pop under, url hijacking and other javascript crap. Adblock didn't exist then.

Also the main problem: the net speed was TERRIBLE. Forget about streaming or watching videos. Sometimes you needed 1 hour for 1 mp3.

I much prefer the net as it is now.

>>
>>61146224
Some duder from the UK, he's mixing drum 'n' bass and jazz or some shit. Its pretty in-line with what Aphex Twin is on about. He put out an EP this year that I thought was pretty good: Conumber

Agreed. My internet is like 20 times slower than the average but I can still do most things (watch HD video with little buffer time, stream, video chat) other people can do. It's especially easy if you're into music and don't depend on lossless quality for your 1000$ audio equipment. The world isn't ready for gigabit internet.
