For christmas my dad asked me to get him a thumb drive full of music I think he'd like. I recently got him into Massive Attack and Darkside - Psychic. I'd love to get him more music like that but I'm unfamiliar with that aria of music. Does anyone have suggestions for chill, bassy electronic music with no rapping and not much edgyness? preferably with some vocals?
Not familiar with MA or darkside but something like this?

Aw yeah I love that one. There was a concert of Francesco Tristano & Bugge Wesseltoft in my neighbourhood a while ago, but it was too expensive so I didn't go. Which I now regret, obviously.

Is there a genre name for this kind of stuff that would allow me to find this more easily? I know some of it is trip hop but when I last started exploring trip hop I found a lot of more hip hoppy type stuff.

It's exactly trip-hop. Downtempo and chillout are also used. You can use last.fm to find similar artists.
Sorry if some of the pictures are X'ed over that just means I listened to them, hopefully it helps. I enjoyed all the albums I listened to so that might help.

cool, thanks man. with school and all I haven't really had the time to start label digging like I have with other genres.
Endtroducing by DJ Shadow is so good OP.

I've listened to that before. I find it more interesting than enjoyable but I'm not really a hip hop person. I'm pretty sure my dad wouldn't like it, it's a little too jerky(?) dunno what the right word to describe that is. but mostly he's a middle aged white nerd and while he's relatively open minded I think endtroducing is way too hip hoppy for him. I'll play it for him next time we brew beer together and see how he reacts.
