What's /mu/'s consensus on Iron Maiden?
love their first album, love them in general really
God tier in the 80s, shit in the 90s, decent since then.
Pic related is their best.

Pretty good up through Seventh Son. Then they became a joke.
Fucking amazing band. Murray, Smith and Gers are among my favourite guitarists
Good for the time although too campy and blues-oriented to fit today's world. Modern metal really began with Pantera.
If anyone shits on Maiden, they are probably just doing it on purpose.
Nothing but love.

I was just listening to VDAP and over 20 years later it still sounds fresh. The only thing that's maybe kind of dated is Dimebag's 80s-style shredder solos (due to his hair metal past) since newer metal deemphasizes soloing. Most of the 80s metal classics are hella dated and sound very different from today's metal.

We know.
has any band failed harder at replacing a great singer than Maiden did with Blaze Bayley?

Halford being replaced with Ripper Owens?

Ripper was an amazing vocalist, too bad he was absolutely boring as a live performer.

Well, that and Glenn/KK had exhausted all their good riff ideas by that point.
