Do you think there was any coordination whether mutually intended or not between tpab and tptb? Just the initials of these albums for starters which is underscored by as i recall a line in tpab "only one besides snoop could Push The Button." Also they both mentions "yams" I think. Anything else? All just a coincidence?

I wasn't a huge fan of their new album but it had a few really cute things on it.
I'd say The School's new album is probably a bit cuter even though I wasn't super big on it either.
I just haven't ran into anything super cute that I really really love from this year yet. Lightning in a Twilight Hour is the closest I've come and it's only kinda cute.

It's gotta be a mere coincidence. I don't think Death Grips has any lyric about yams, but I know Kendrick said "the yams is the powers that be" or something on that order. Powers that be is a common enough phrase that I wouldn't expect any sort of plotting behind the scenes. Very different artists and I don't think they'd do anything like that.
Benji was probably #9 or #10 on my list last year. I loved his storytelling but felt that he played it too safe, sticking to a set formula for most songs. Universal Themes is full-on stream of consciousness storytelling folk music. Mark just does what he wants and the whole album just takes the honesty and intimacy of Sun Kil Moon projects to the next level. I wasn't blown away by it at first but after repeated listens, typically late at night alone with my thoughts, it has really grown on me.
