I got into them in October of this year and they're a really surprising band. Some of their deeper cuts from the early-mid 80s are as abrasive as classic EBM from the era like Nitzer Ebb

MFTM and Violator yes. Haven't heard the last two. Anyway I was just responding to anon's comparison invite which, after thinking about it, is kind of ridiculous to begin with. I say New Order automatically just cause I like them better, but they're like post punk influenced by disco and Kraftwerk whereas Depeche were more synthpop with industrial influences. Just two different types of acts really.

The problem is that DM started as a lightweight synthpop band and they also lost an important member (Vince Clarke) right after their first album. They needed time to develop their sound, while New Order already had the Joy Division legacy.
