It kind of pisses me off how it's the norm now for ever artist to have a hiatus of about 3 years between albums. Come on..., David bowie, genesis, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, etc. were all at some point making more ambitious albums in half that time...
It just irritates me how could someone be signed to a label like 4Ad in their 20's NOT want to create and release as much good music as possible.
Grimes should be able to write 2 albums a year worth of material judging on her style. She doesn't need to waste 3 years between each release.

And burnt out is a shallow excuse. It's her only job to tour and make music. Brian Eno pretty much made or produced an album every year for 11 years in the 70's and early 80s.
I'm not saying you have to be that extreme, but obviously when you are a professional music maker you figure out a schedule that works for you. If you are just relying on some vsts in your apartment with barely any overhead (see Grimes), why is it taking you 3 years to write an album when you have a band like Genesis releasing 2 double albums in back to back in a year.
Inspiration is bullshit, its just work ethic. Obviously the elephant in the room is touring, artists need to tour as they profit more from that. So there is no need to make record an album that often anymore.
