The 1990s were the best decade for music

It went past corporate follow up
You have that now with bands like neutral milk hotel, radiohead, kanye west, and every top 40 musician that gets spammed on this website everyday.

It inspired everyone to be individualistic and have their own thoughts about things.

Mixture of 1960s and 1980s underground and it stuck with everyone. The music talked about problems never talked about with people and in a blunt manner that could help people overcome problems.
That is the reason people liked it.
You did not need to be forced like you do now a days.

You also had many new genres of music that came out that never existed which bands are still revered as the best of that decade.

Here is what you see everytime you go on /mu/

I think you're being a bit harsh. There are still great artists coming out today and innovating, but we're not able to look back and see it as clearly as we can with bands from 40 to 60 years ago. The internet as a whole is also responsible for homogenizing a lot of music "culture" because you don't really have to belong to a local scene to be influenced by that scene anymore.

That being said, yeah there's advertising here but it's dumb to say that because something is repeatedly posted that it's viral marketing, it could just be one person spamming something to try to make it catch on. The best you can really do on the internet as a whole is to be firm with your opinions and make sure to do your research when someone is presenting something as factual.
