Post interesting albums and why people should listen.

Christian Scott's Stretch Music is very modern in its approach. It is not always the most complicated but it is enjoyable, solid and worth a listen. He is out of New Orleans and the album features many different moods but frequently shows off dramatic trumpet and sax sounds.

I hate people who buy trumpet's like that. It has to sound awful.

you know a lot of jazz fans deny that jazz is fedora-core, but one of the most popular modern jazz artists is pic related. and he's literally never not wearing a fedora or hat, seriously look him up on google images. Plus he pretty much just plays smooth jazz with some r&b flourishes
>>
>>61021194
Yes definitely.
If you liked the chaos of it check out: Deux Maisons - For Sale and Alexander Von Schlippenbach - Features
If you liked the discrete ambience: Jakob Bro - Gefion
If you liked the Piano: Alex Conde - Descarga for Monk

For a more classic sound Rudresh Mahanthappa released Birdcalls this year and it's very good.
Also Vijay Iyer Trio is always good. The last two albums are a good place to start.
Also John Scofield is nice. Bluesy jazz.
>>
Ari Hoenig's "Lines of Oppression" is one of the best modern jazz albums out there, along with both "Fourteen" by Dan Weiss, "SplitLife" by Gilad Hekselman, and anything by Miles Okazaki

Aaron Parks - Invisible Cinema

Even though there are no original pieces and Battle Pieces might be a better 2015 Nate Wooley album overall I thought this one was super fun. Josh Sinton is also really great on this, especially on Phyrizzinian Man.
>>
>>61022493
no prob and it doesn't surprise me that she's difficult to find as she isn't like our other jazz legends so she has a fairly small group following her
>>
>>61022577
Update: all links in the archive are dead
I did find an album with her and Akiko Yano on Jpopsuki though, so that should be fun

Avishai Cohen is great.
>>
>>61025644
Jazz album of the year. Very underrated.
>>
>>61025743
Your vision of smooth jazz is just kenny g? Smooth jazz is not just made for the purpose of being easy listening or watered down. Its very detailed and tight, great solos and soloists come from that genre, amazing dynamics and the song structures are really refreshing after the basic themesolosolosolotheme etc.
>>
>>61025679
I was disappointed with From Darkness desu, I think Tigran's Mockroot is a much better album in the Avishai Cohen -like style
>>
>>61025970
Can Mockroot even be considered jazz?
It felt too composed, lacking improvisation.
