I think, out of every board, you guys would be the most knowledgeable about this.

I think the time has come to replace my computer speakers.I have a set of JBL Spots that are older than my marriage. I am not even sure how old they are...bare minimum, 10 years old. They still sound pretty great, but I've noticed some muddiness in the vocal range. I want something that will sound great for music, gaming, and movies/tv shows alike. I don't need big, booming bass....I'd rather have crisp, clear audio and not shake my fillings loose, but still rock out with my cock out.

I purchased the Audioengine A2+ because of all the stellar reviews and was thoroughly disappointed...sound was muffled and much lower quality than my wife's $100 Bose speakers. The manufacturer said, "Give these at least 50 hours of continuous play to break in before judging." After 75 hours, I returned them.

Now considering getting the Harmon Kardon Soundstick III's...have wanted a set of these for over a decade. But I'm a little gun shy, after spending $250 on duds.

What's ya'lls opinion? Good choice? Recommend something else? Tell me to go fuck myself?

Help me, /mu/! You're my only hope! Seriously, where else am I going to find audiophiles without their heads up their own asses?

These are the shitty fuckers I had purchased. The Audioengine A2+. I tried the 3.5 mm audio jack, the USB connection for onboard DAC, and neither produced decent sound. Was immensely disappointing, especially considering they were ranked on many lists as among the best PC speakers of 2015.

I was also considering the Polk Audio Hampden AM6510-A Bluetooth Speaker System with aptX Audio Streaming. They're around the same price. I don't mind spending more if I am going to get something of high quality.

Microlab FC50 54 W Near-Field Hi-Fi Enclosure-Free 2.1 Speaker w/ Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for PC and Multimedia Entertainment Is another consideration...less expensive, you know. So, anyone have any opinions? Anyone at all?

Come on, /mu/. Help me replace these aging beauties.

I used to have a set like that, back in the days before I had a child....good sound, I thought. Might be a touch out of my price range right now, though. I'm trying to keep it under 400.

The audiosource amp-100 is going for $100 on newegg, speakers would be the pricey part. I feel ya though on cost, I couldn't find any computer speakers I was happy with, so I went this route.

I use Soundstick II's I bought used from Craigslist and I think they get the job done. From what I understand, it doesn't matter which model you buy from a sound perspective.

I have these, I think they're great. I don't have a highly refined ear but they sound good and look sweet.

These are amazing and now they are only $600 (I got them for a gradn 2 years ago). I play them in room and it fills the room nice with such great clarity

For $200 bucks or less, what would you guys say is the best computer speaker system?
>>
I was considering saving some money and getting these Klipsch from Best Buy...they're on sale for $125 right now, so it wouldn't be a huge loss if they weren't the best. Sounded pretty good in store, if a little heavy on the base.

Sound engineer here,

I highly reccomend Yamaha studio moniters, they will sound better than most of what's on the market and they are also still reasonably priced.

They come in different sizes so you should be able to find a pair that wont have too much bass for you, and if you still feel like you have too much bass go to your local guitar center and get an eq

It sounds like you have shit hearing dude. Bose speakers don't really ever have particularly high fidelity, just over-emphasized highs and lows to make it sound good to plebs.
>>
Yamaha NS-A525 owner here, I've had mine for a while and I've been happy with them but I still feel like upgrading. Any particular models you recommend?
