So we're agreed that this is the GOAT Punk album and that no American band in history has ever released anything on the same level, right?

Out Come The Wolves?

That chip on you shoulder is larger than the tiny island you live on.
>>
But that's a post-punk album, and not the best of that category (though it's up there).
>>
>>61009294
Great album but the best from that era of 90's Cal punk was obviously 40 Oz To Freedom.

That's barley post punk.

>london calling isn't post-punk
do you live under a rock?
>>
>>61009543
true
>>
>>61009388
The Clash were first and foremost a punk band, and this was their magnum opus.

I kind of define post punk as darker sounding than punk. Stuff like Joy Division, Gang of Four and Magazine, that kind of thing.
>>
>>61009479
Literally DUDE I'M ANGRY LMAO: The Band.

TV Party is a pretty good tune though, because it's the only song of theirs where it's not some guy shouting over an out of tune guitar.
>>
>>61009502
Yeah, incredibly varied but consistently good.
>>
>Tv Party
>not some guy shouting over an out of tune guitar.
>>
>>61009276
Does it still count if its reggae and ska influenced?
Pink Flag and Damned Damned Damned are better anyway (still british)
>>
>>61009276
I guess you never heard of this little three piece combo out of San Pedro, California, called The Minutemen who put out a two record set in 1984 called, "Double Nickels on The Dime".
>>
>>61009276
their first album was punk. that's it. Anything from combat rock and onwards is what secured their place in hell
>>
>>61009767
Most early post-punk bands were originally punk bands, so that's a terrible excuse. Nobody calls The Scream punk rock even though The Banshees were one of the early punk rock bands. It's post-punk.

And London Calling, the song is exactly the sort of thing everyone thinks of when they think post-punk.
>>
>>61009276
It's pretty awful, then again almost all "punk rock" is. Hardcore is Elder God Tier however.

>>
>>61009543
Agree but anon said American band. It's a loaded question because there's no answer that fits the time frame. Double Nickels is close. Stooges were proto-punk.
>>

DARLIN U GOT TA LET ME KNO
SHUD I STAY OR SHUD I GO
ITS ALWAYS TESE TESE TESE
U GOT ME WEN IM ON MUH KNEES
SO U GOOOOOTTA LET ME KNO
SHUD I STAY OR SHUD I GO

Deep, man, another song about a white guy and his white girlfriend that constantly whips him. Fuck this white shit, many more revolutionary albums were released in the golden age of rap than this trash.
>>

This isn't punk, this is hipster shit that some asshole dug up because Kurt Koban liked it, m8.

Can you give me some Hardcore band which are Elder God Tier please ?

What? This was a huge release. They were on late night shows and shit. Were you even alive?
>>

Nice bait. That song was released on their worst album.

I meant the genre. Hardcore is diverse so it's impossible to tell what someone will like.

as far as less entry level shit goes japan and sweden are the countries to beat

lel get fucked, go listen to "turn on the news" and say it's not punk. I don't think this album was even on Cobain's top 50, and I'm not sure if any hipsters listen to Husker Du, plenty of punk though
>>
>>61009276
I love this fucking album but let's stop pretending it even sounds like a punk album
>>
>>61009410
i love The Clash, but this guy hit the nail on the fucking head so hard. London Calling really kind of is a boring album.
>>
>>61009609
what agricultural phenomenon is this "barley post punk"
>>
>>61010731
But Laughing Hyena were better than Negative Approach.
And to say London Calling or Zen Arcade aren't contenders for greatest punk album goes to show how clueless you are

Come on now

laughing hyenas were great but not really hardcore, more like punk blues or noise rock

>And to say London Calling or Zen Arcade aren't contenders for greatest punk album goes to show how clueless you are

be that as it may, they're also the go-to picks for indie kids who've got no clue about punk beyond whatever they see on pitchfork's best-of lists

Like I'll agree to half of those bands being better than the Clash, but no more.

Britain really didn't come through with too many great punk acts, considering "Mall Punks: the Band" also came from there.

Sure, if we were in an alternate universe in which this album was never made you may have a point
>>
>>61010589
Yeah, that's all The Clash wrote songs about. It's not as if, you know, they weren't renowned for writing songs with huge sociopolitical themes in their lyrics or anything.

Also that song wasn't even on London Calling you autist.

If you're gonna bring classic Hip-Hop into the debate, then you'll know that Chuck D, who was pretty much the black Strummer, cites The Clash as a huge influence.
>>
>>61011290
Yep, better than all of those. The only ones who come close are Black Flag. Rancid are basically The Clash lite. NOFX? Really? Hahaha, enjoy your adolescent Blink 182 tier songs about drinking beer.

In fact, the only punk band to ever come close to the greatness of The Clash were The Jam.
>>
>>61012770
Minor Threat as well, actually. They're pretty God tier. But still not shit on The Clash.
>>
>>61012770
>Rancid are basically The Clash lite.
This is true, and they're both shit.

I love London Calling thing, but it's not super punk. A personal favorite of mine, but not that punk.

Pic related for me
>>
>>61012723
That's all I ever hear on the radio; they must not've written anything good for rock radio outside of that.

Also, Chuck D only said that to rope their fans in because he needed money. That much should be obvious; he wouldn't have gotten where he was without sticking it out for the white guy.
