What went so fucking right?
>>
>>60996903
the producers who made this are fucking geniuses
>>
tom hanks for starters

otherwise I'm not very familiar with her aside from this album which I love
>>
>>60996903

i like this album *thumbs up*
>>
>>60996928
This. Pretty much nailed it.

I don't have to be ashamed of my waifu on /mu/ anymore thanks Carly <3

But for real, there is a lot of good shit going down on this album. Rich, thick synths, catchy hooks, Carly's voice is powerful on it...not much else to ask for.

>my favorite 2015 records are all pop albums

weird feel desu
>>
>>60996903
Carly's production team, her managers, and herself.

Carly may have had a somewhat lukewarm fanbase after releasing Call Me Maybe, but this album solidified it. Her team knew that she'd be a fucking trainwreck if she did what many other pop artists did: Dabble into different styles/genres in a single album in order to try and have at least one hit. They wrote/produced I Really Like You, which got that out of the way, and took everyone by surprising by making a good, focused album

Like, Run Away With Me is my fucking jam. It is too fucking perfect.

>>

Seriously, I could listen to Run Away With Me on repeat for hours

I don't know why it's so catchy. IT'S JUST SO FUCKING CATCHY
>>
>>60996903
10/10
would listen to on a daily basis if i weren't a 21 year old guy
>>
that album cover. Makes me hard tbqh
>>
>>60998725
I have and I'm not ashamed. I wish I had the balls to put that track while at a party.

I guess I just really want someone to feel that way about me. I know, I know I'm a fag.
>>
>>60996903
theres alot of great songs on this, and as everyone has said her production team have done a fantastic job on the album

i feel like it was a little too long though, especially for a pop record. then again the majority of her fanbase dont listen to full albums i suppose
>>
>>60998808
Naw b. I feel you.

I'm a fucking school girl, m8. If a girl sang/dedicated these two songs to me, I would marry her on the spot. No questions asked.
>>
>>60999078
I just want a girl to run away with :(
>>
>>60998242
>>60998725
run away with me is fucking excellent

emotion has been devastatingly overlooked this year. it's what i was hoping 1989 would be

La Hallucinations is the GOAT
>>
Listened to this today, I thought it was alright. I'm usually not into this kind of pop, but Emotion sets itself apart from other mainstream pop music. This really blows 1989 out of the water, an album I didn't really enjoy except for 1-2 songs. I hope she continues in this direction and become more creative as her career progresses.

>>60998867
I agree about it being too long, some of the songs felt dragged out too. Kind of a curse with this type of music, they want to make it catchy
>>
Is it really that good?
>>
>>60999643
yes

top 5 pop albums of 2015 absolutely non-debatable and probably the strongest contender for runner-up

froot is still better though
>>
>>60999671
I'll look into it
>>
>>60999671
1989 = Art Angels > Delirium ≥ E.MO.TION. > Revival > Froot

All were great pop though, glad to hear a good batch of quality!
>>
>>60999876
1989 was last year and side 1 of art angels is fucking shit (please prove me wrong) but I am extremely happy to see you mention Revival which I think is probably the strongest contender for most underrated album of the year
>>
>>60999907
I know, but I feel like it's success & greatness is the inspiration for this year's wave of pop

Hell no side 1 AA isn't shit -- California is SUCH a wonderful song to walk around to, damn it just makes you happy. Scream is decent but Belly of the Beat and FWB AND Kill v Maim are all 5/5....like how could you not love those songs?
The only weak-er ones on the whole album are Scream, title track, Pin and maybe Butterfly
>>
>>60999969
I'll go through it again but offhand, has she always been this guitar heavy? Side 1 seems very guitar heavy for pop/synth and she seems in over her head.
>>
>>60999969
>California is SUCH a wonderful song to walk around to, damn it just makes you happy.
for starters the chorus and refrain are the exact same, no? i.e. the whole song is 3 notes?
>>
>>60999969
well at least we're agreed that scream is shit
>>
>>60996903

Emotion is far better than 1989.
Art Angels only has a couple good songs.

>>60999969
Pin is one of the better ones alongside butterfly.
>>
>>61000452
wtf how did I miss this
>>
>hated call me maybe
>literally unable to look at it and figure out why it was successful or well loved whatsoever
>it was everywhere
>emotion is really really good
>it's nowhere

I mean like I can not like songs and still understand why they're so successful usually, I literally couldn't with call me maybe, it was just so generic.
>>
>>61001912
>>it's nowhere
eh she just performed some rockefeller christmas thing I think or is going to

also tom hanks was the star of her video for I really like you

I dont know about call me though so by comparison I couldnt say
>>
>>60998166

Pretty much this.
>>
>>60998725

"Run Away With Me" comes on at the gym I go to at least once every time I'm there (three times a week). I fucking love it.

One time it came on when I was on the treadmill and I just about fell off.

It hasn't been overlooked at all man, it's gotten a ton of acclaim especially for a modern pop album. And that chorus on Run Away With Me is what really makes the song, it's so big and grandiose that it almost becomes a too kitschy but she manages to pull it off. Also sounds a bit like she's channeling Gwen Stefani or something when she namedrops the title for what that's worth.
>>
>>61001912
It has a catchy rhythm, lots of repetition, it's cute and warm, builds tension and has people singing along within the song, all of which are pop hit hallmarks.

It's a really good album. I don't know what possessed me to give it a listen in the first place (must've been hearing I Really Like You in the radio all the time), but I was pleasantly surprised. Emotion is the best track imo.
>>
fuck, i guess i'll listen to it.
>>
Real talk though this album is 9/10 for me, #3 of the year only after sufjan and joanna
>>
You guys would probably like this travel video I shot with my wife lipsynching to Run Away With Me:

Emotion is AOTY for sure.
>>

The Deluxe Version is superior. It contains ""I Didn't Just Come Here to Dance" and "Favorite Colour", which are both really good tracks.

People changed the lyrics to make memes and stuff
These were awful times glad it's long gone

>>
>>60996928
Her last album was great too though.

There's only one common thread between all the songs on the two albums: Carly.

She has great pop sensibilities.
>>
>>61003510
Hint: he didn't

He's /technically/ the head of her production label but their manager, Scooter Braun, is really the one who does all the legwork. The credit is just for show.

And even then the Scoots not at all involved in the creation process.
>>
>>61008554
Who?

Frst impressions listening to it on spotify

yeah this is good
>>
>>61008496
the japanese deluxe version is the best though, it had three extra songs. "Never Get To Hold You" and "Love Again" are good, the remix is just meh though.
