i dunno, i like the korg legacy stuff a lot for synths, other than that i mostly use kontakt or just make my own sounds from sampling stuff, it was more of a dig at how people always just list the popular synths immediately when somebody says they want a vst to make sounds with. too many people jump immediately to programming your own synth patches when the conversation turns to sound design

Your vsts aren't good enough to sound remotely like a real band (particularly the drums). You should go full electronic imo, the composition isn't bad. Or you could get good at real instruments.

You're out doing something, maybe grocery shopping, and this awesome song idea pops into your head. You want to get it out of your head into a DAW, but you're nowhere near your computer and by the time you get there you might forget it.

How do you put your idea down and secure that crap so you don't forget it? Are there any apps for that purpose?
>>
>>60988705
lmao this is weak as shit
almost cringy
just put it on newgrounds for someone to use it for shitty background music for their shitty game
>>
>>60991322
If an "awesome song idea" just pops into your head, there is a 99% chance it's recycled from something you heard recently. So don't bother.
>>
>>60991057
Thats pretty cool. Obviously it sounds like guitar pro 3, but I like the music. Just wish it was properly recorded
>>
>>60991363
whatever, basic chord progressions aren't anyones property. steel whatever is in your head and make a song out of it, no one will notice or care, nor should they
>>
>>60991337
we should really add a constructive criticism only rule to the op (if anybody would bother posting it anymore, that is) to cut down on useless posts like these
>>
so I am more or less finished with my track and its almost all midi this time. my "mastering" usually consists of trying to keep all my weird shitty recordings under control so every track can be heard.
Im pretty happy with how this sounds already, with 0 equalisers. Should I still just add one to every track and do all the standard shit like lock down the high freqs in bass tracks etc. just in case?
>>
>>60991508
basic chord progressions aren't awesome.

>>60991322
Caustic is OK, consider getting it if you have a large touchscreen phone, the piano roll is cumbersome otherwise.

but you dont come up with awesome complete song ideas at the store without realizing whether or not this is a song youve heard before.

chord progressions, variation, filter automation, synth patches and switch up that synth in the background

>>
>>60992002
was expecting drums to switch to a jungle esq breakbeat wouldve been kind of cheesy though
not bad my man

I think some of the clipping adds character to the track try outboarding it to tape or consider an emulation
kind of has a early 2000 late nineties feel
>>
>>60992187
hard to do jungle at 190bpm lol. would have sounded terribly fast. thanks though. i've considered using tape but i dont really see the appeal

the clipping is entirely emulated. it sounds identical to clipping but it rests right under 0 the whole track. i use GClip to achieve that and i basically use it instead of mastering.

Question.

So, if I want to produce an album, how the fuck do I avoid to have the tracks at different volumes?

I have heard about normalization, but wouldn't that cut all the dynamics?
>>
>>60991226
I like the first one, and if you're trying to make your track sound like it's underwater at the beginning , I think you should cut some of the lows, and throw a flanger or chorus on some stuff.

I'm really liking the third WIP too

So I live in a small-as-fuck apartment and needed a place to record.

I am not allowed to mount rails on the walls for noise-treatment, so I looked up alternate solutions.

Here is what I came up with after a little research.

I know it seems small, but space is severely limited where I live. I always record sitting down anyway, so it works out. I just throw some fuck-huge blankets over it and it works out pretty good.

My non-USB microphone still sounds like dogshit though. The USB is a nicer mic, but it sounds awesome inside my poorfag blanket fort.

Have you guys ever made anything /prod/-related?

automate the reverbs level, (the knob to the right of the reverb on the mixers effect slot) , the dry / wet signal, or if you're using a return, automate the send level to 0 after 8 measures.
the chords are ok so far, could use a bass, and a catchy melody.
>>
What do you guys think about this - https://soundcloud.com/derision/batshit

Going for that trap sound, I know the mix is shit but I feel like the base music itself is good.
>>
>>60996549
I'm really new at this so I honestly have no idea what to do as far as making better, more complex chords. No idea where to begin with bass, and no idea where to start with a melody.

I'm frustratingly awful at this. Also I don't know this stuff well enough to fix the reverb in the manner you described unfortunately.
>>
>>60996611
>no idea what to do as far as making better, more complex chords
if you're making future bass the chords don't necessarily have to be complex, but you can always add notes , or delete notes until it sounds cool.
>No idea where to begin with bass, and no idea where to start with a melody.
Use presets if you like, although synthesis is a great skill to have, you'll probably have more fun dicking around with presets. choose a bass preset, or any preset really, and make a bassline that follows your chord progression. dick around in the piano roll or your midi controller and come up with a melody.
>Also I don't know this stuff well enough to fix the reverb in the manner you described unfortunately.
Look it up in the FL manual, or look it up online, automation is a basic function in DAWs, and is very useful.

This is what mastering engineers are for

They're an expensive hire, but they have equipment and ears that are very valuable

Of course you could just do it yourself by listening through everything and noting the levels on your meters, and attempting to get that consistent

The trick is having the "loud" bits (usually the chorus, or just the parts you want to be perceived as loud ) being the same dB across the album.
