Unlike traditional "movements", vaporwave is literally a meme, a product of the internet era, with no codified aesthetic or method of production. It's creators have largely abandoned it leaving its interpretation up to the world at large.
Visually, vaporwave is essentially a resurrection of pop art with a dadaist use of preexisting media, focusing on the hyperreal visual style of the internet era.
But given that most is lost in imitation, most of it amounts to Japanese characters and Roman busts, and a belief that it is another part of 80s/early 90s retrofuturism (when in fact Eccojams was more of a general overview of pop from the 70s to the present day, and Far Side Virtual was relentlessly based in the zeitgeist of the early 2010s iPad era).

Liquid Sky Economy is one of my top ten favorite tracks this year
