take your time senpai, just keep practicing pushing down those chords until they sound right. as for strumming patterns, try to start out slowly with some simple stuff and make sure you can keep a somewhat steady rhythm before going for the faster stuff.
as for picks; it depends on what you wanna play. folky fingerpicking with a pick doesn't work, but for strumming chords and playing solos a pick will do.
>>
>>60925554

Is this mic on?

I did something I don't do usually and listened to one of the albums from the bandcamp threads.

https://deathdeathdeathdeathdeath.bandcamp.com/

>Death of the Dead - beautiful things to say

This is a very short release that only lasts half an hour. I guess you could classify it as a post-vaporwave ambient release.

What I really dig about it is that it ventures into areas of ambient noise on some of the tracks (every stone here sweats with suffering, broken fingers, white knuckles, bone especially), enhancing the tracks' overall emotional outline. The other synth-oriented tracks do sound pleasant but don't particularly go outside of the background sound for me. I did like the off-beat repetition on so kiss me quick though, even if it was a little bit too long.

The closer on the album was a pleasant surprise because this small lo-fi "indie rock" bit felt like a very comfortable closer.

I dig it. Some bits lasted for too long, some didn't capture my attention but it felt pleasant overall. Check it out if you dig Boards Of Canada and OPN.

6/10

I might start doing bandcamp thread reviews from time to time if they're short enough for a small review. Even Oxen is next on the list ;^)

Arthur Russell - World of Echo (1986)

World of Echo showcases a sort of minimalist charm that you can find in albums like Nick Drake's Pink Moon. As the title suggests, World of Echo is echoes and periods that seem silent but actually aren't. Tracks such as Tone Bone Kone, Tree House, and Hiding Your Present From You, all show exactly what this record is about. Overall great album, 8/10

This album wasn't in my december chart but oh well. I just recently got around to listening to Congratulations by MGMT in full and I was expecting it to be a good album because I really enjoy there other material but I didn't expect it to be this good. Congratulation seriously is a trip, the whole album impresses me, there were definitely one or two songs on the record that didn't feel as interesting as the other tracks but that doesn't mean they were bad songs.

The album has some really dark moments which deal with pretty depressing themes and it also had moments that were so clever they made me chuckle. This truly was a great album and definitely in my top 10 of all time.
>>

>>
>>60925311
I got a guitar in like 5 months ago and I still can't play ITAOTS perfectly. The chord switching is pretty fast on that one.
But yeah, it's much easier to strum with a pick, that's what it's used for. I don't know how people do it with fingers, it sounds way too muffled and quiet for me that way.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRw_TL8MsyY

jeez heres one hell of a vocal performance. demented, unhinged, raunchy, silly, its pretty fun to listen to, yeah. the circus-kinda instrumental fits but could be a bit less unchanging, actually so could the vocal. so its kinda anticlimactic but i havent heard anything that could be compared to this, i dont think

Because these threads are the epitome of back-patting and self-congratulating. You can't really do that without knowing who others are. It's also convenient for building the hive-mind and circle-jerk opinions that dominate the threads, and it's easy to shun outsiders who bring a contrary opinion.

>Moon is a Dead World
hoooooly shiit. What's not to love here, the band is tight consistently, the bass is full and lays a nice ground for the rest of the band, the guitar interplay's consistently interesting and varied, the riffs are moody and melodic but never cheesy, the atmosphere's godly, this shit sounds like it was recorded in a church. Vocalist's great but knows when to let the guitars just shine.
9/10
>Chaos is Me
Pretty damn great. I don't really listen to much "extreme" music but I still found myself really enjoying this, underneath the layers of brutal noise there were some truly scraping riffs and mobile bass. I did find myself zoning out a little at about the 3/4 point but that might just be because I'm not used to such a continuous assault

I've never really been much into AJJ before this, there's a few tracks off People Who Can Eat People I enjoy and Big Bird's GOAT, but I usually find their stuff patchy, they can never find the right balance between emotional catharsis and, you know, good songwriting. But I didn't really have that problem this record. It's consistent, the songs are short and to the point but generally fleshed out enough to get their point across, the lyrics are personal and often witty and the albums flows nicely. that is until
DWWWOOOoooOOooOOOdowoOWOWOWOWOWO

Listening to This Is Not A Dream by Dadamah right now btw

The other rating is Earth's The Bees Made Honey In The Lion Skulls

pretty fucking big stepdown from the other Earth album I heard (Earth 2) which is a favorite of mine. This is a more psychedelic less heavy and less harsh sound, which pretty much sounds like desert droney psych rock.

The use of repetition is not that good most of the time but it does have a couple of songs that I will replay. I would put it in the background or listen to it while doing something else or just chilling while high but it's not interesting enough for the most part to warrant a full attentive listen of most track due to how it doesn't use repetition in a very effective way.

Combining these two since their practically the same album. First thing I really liked from these albums was the great use samples, never over used or used long enough to out-ware their welcome. I reckon most of the stuff is borrowed from old and perhaps obscure rnb records. They create this nice jazzy and chill atmosphere that makes me want to drift asleep. some great dream qualities are found on these albums. Pure vapormoods.

Falling in Love.
Eureka is now the official album for today, since it struck me that McPhee is a Scottish name.

hate to be obvious, but Sufjan's output is very christmasy. aside from the actual christmas albums, Michigan and Seven Swans give off a christmas thing.

also listen to this:

it was on this month's calendar for me. it's slightly darker, but it's so good.

i might actually catch up on my calendar tonight. been preoccupied with school and bandwagon hopping.

I made a promise to Nyar to relisten to Sondre Lerche's Faces Down around the holidays cos that sounded really Christmasy to me, so that.
The Phil Spector christmas comp of course.
Charlie Brown Christmas
Sung Tongs by AnCo occupies a weird spot where I'm not sure what season it reminds me of, but "Winter's Love" is at least phenomenal for Christmas.
Dominique A. - La fossette
Elliott Smith's entire discog, really.

There's a patrician Christmas music sharethread going on rn. There's some good stuff in there, and I uploaded two Fahey albums.
