What's the best song Modest Mouse ever wrote?
>>
Dramamine
>>
>>60922880
I'll save you all the argument, it's Cowboy Dan
>>
solid tie between dramamine, teeth like gods shoeshine, and cowboy dan.
>>
Convenient Parking
>>
>>60922880
whenever they accidentally hit record while not doing anything
>>
Teeth Like God's Shoeshine is their best lyrically.

Edit the Sad Parts is also up there. Night on the Sun, Stars are Projectors, Blame it on the Tetons as well.

For shorter songs I actually really like Wild Pack of Family Dogs.
>>
OH MY GODDAMN
TAKE EM ALLLLLL FOR THE LOOOONG RIIIIIIIIIIDE
>>
>>60922963
I'd say TLGS is tied with Styrofoam Boots/It's all nice on ice, lyrically
>>
>>60922969
Take em all for the sense of happiness
That comes from hurting
Deep down inside
>>
Trailer Trash t.b.h.f.å.m.
>>
Hard to say, but it's definitely a song off of Lonesome Crowded West
>>
The World at Large tbqh pham
>>
>>60922982
My problem with Styrofoam Boots is that it's really lyrically clever at first, but it gets really boring for me. TLGS is so dense that it doesn't get stale.
>>
shit the dad posts
>>
No one's mentioning their newer stuff (and there's a reason for that), but Lampshades on Fire, Spitting Venom, Wicked Campaign and The Ground Walks With Time In A Box are all pretty fantastic.
>>
>>60922935
came here to post this

I will never in my life forget some of the absolutely brilliantly blistering lines in some of Modest Mouse's music though - and Isaac's fucking perfect delivery

>I was in heaven, I was in hell
>Believe in neither, but fear 'em as well
>>
>>60922935
>cowboy dan's a major player in the cowboy scene

isaac brock is pretty fucking funny
>>
Shit luck
>>
>>60923086
What I like most, I think, is how all of the albums stay consistent with their themes/motifs. In The Moon and Antarctica, and in Long Drive, you can almost trace a narrative through the album.
>>
Never
Ending
Math
Equation
>>
Also no one is mentioning Trucker's Atlas and I feel as if that's a mistake.
>>
>>60923058
Spitting venom is up there for sure but I would put it in their top 5, just one of their best 'catchy' songs.
>>
>>60923136
Never even ever even really ever even ends
>>
>>60923135
I see Modest Mouse as the perfect music for a train journey. I took some sleeping pills on an amtrac train from NYC to Florida, played modest mouse the whole way there.

>a lonesome crowded west indeed
>>
>>60923160

What I hate though is how long the last third of the song drags on. It would make a much better 5-minute-or-6 song.
>>
>>60923197
took a bus straight to baltimore on the way he took a nap, he dropped off a note that said 'I'm giving this note back.'
>>
>>60923200
i like the pb&jamming ending desu
>>
I'm on a road shaped like a figure 8
I'm going nowhere, but I'm guaranteed to be late

Best depressing songs:
1. Edit the Sad Parts
2. Medication
3. Trailer Trash
4. Positive/Negative
5. Workin On Leavin The Livin
6. Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset
7. Good Times are Killing Me
8. Little Motel
9. Polar Opposites
10. Exit Does Not Exist
>>
it's actually a rarity called calculus man
>>
>>60923136
Classic neme
>>
>>60923393
>Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset
I liked it better when it was called What's Up by 4 Non Blondes
>>
>>60922935
WELL
>>
but what is the most modest mouse song ever wrote?
>>
>>60922880
Edit the Sad Parts by far.

Listened to all the albums on the train last week when I was travelling home from uni in Scotland, the music, the grey rainy weather and going back to small town south England, it was perfect as if I was in a movie or something.
>>
>>60923058
Glad to see someone else enjoyed Strangers
>>
>>60923423
That is a fantastic song my friend
>>
Cities made of ashes
>>
>>60922935
Truckers Atlas is better
>>
I didn't go to work for a month
I didn't leave my bed for eight days straight
I haven't hung out with anyone
Because if I did, I'd have nothing to say

I didn't feel angry or depressed
I didn't feel anything at all
I didn't want to go to bed
And I didn't want to stay up late
When you're living your life, well, that's the price you pay
>>
>>60923004
omg i've always adored this song and never met anyone who's thought the same

something about it just gets me man

and i shout that you're ok
and you should have seen the look on your face
and i guess that's what it takes
when comparing our bellyaches

and i guess that i miss you
and i'm sorry if i dissed you

it's so like simple and dumb but it just gets to me idk
>>
>>60924651
It's so hit-or-miss. The good songs are really good, but then there's shit like Ansel or Pistol which make it a chore to listen through.
>>
>>60924821
It being so simple and dumb is probably the reason it's so angsty. Like a teenager who doesn't quite understand exactly where he is in the world. Meanwhile M&A is almost the opposite, being all about big ideas, and isolation.
>>
>>60924821
>and i shout that you're ok
It's actually:
>And I shout that you're all fakes
>>
>>60924833
Bruh pistol was one of the most interesting tracks on the album.
>>
does modest mouse have the best lyrics in indie rock? hard to think of another band of the same style with better lyrics
>>
>>60923058
Lampshades on Fire is pretty based imho
>>
>>60924821
I find it funny how that's exactly how isaac feels about the song too. It meant a lot to him when he wrote it, and now he doenst even know who's he's referring to in the song, according to his pitchumentary
>>
modest mouse is a poor man's built to spill
>>
>>60925037
you got that backwards m8
>>
>>60923058
DESU senpai Wicked Campaign is one of their worst songs to date, but Ground Walks is one of their best.
>>
built to spill are great
modest mouse are great
they're not really all that similar though besides both being american indie rock bands
>>
>>60922880
Bankrupt on Selling or Teeth Like God's Shoeshine. Their strongest sides in two songs.
>>
>>60922924
The ending of dramamine scared Degnan
>>
Other People's Lives
>>
>>60925066
Seeing as Modest Mouse is more readily available, you're statistically incorrect.
>>
>>60925037
>built to spill
They only have two good albums
and one okay one.
>>
>>60924821
You clearly just came here from tumblr desu senpai
But it's a hella good song
>>
>>60924964
I really like Built to Spill's lyrics.
>>
>>60924883
It's not a *bad* song, it just really doesn't fit in well with the rest of the album.
>>
>>60925066
you're joking right? modest mouse haven't released half an album as fulfilling and as unusual as 'perfect from now on'
>>
>>60925152
You just described Modest Mouse. Long drive isn't the okay one.
>>
>>60924964
Ben Gibbard is a better lyricist
>>
>>60925172
The Moon and Antarctica is better. PFNO is good too, but just a bit below.
>>
>>60925152
Modest Mouse released two good albums (though neither of them are nearly as good as built to spill's best), two okay albums, and two shit albums
>>
>>60925189
Death Cab for Cutie is a poor man's Built to Spill.
>>
Gotta be Lampshades on Fire
>>
select one (1)
>>
>>60925249
Ugly Casanova
>>
>le Built to Spill is better than Modest Mouse because more obscure meme

Will it ever end?
>>
Broke
>>
>>60925260
They're basically the same band please stop fighting mom and dad.
>>
>>60925285
And they're both good so can we fucking stop it
>>
>>60925178
>>60925208
and here come the Built To Spill defense force

Modest Mouse have 2 great albums, 1 good album, 1 okay album, 2 mediocre albums that still have some good songs on them. Plus, they have some great/good eps and a great compilation and an okay compilation.
>>
Name me a Modest Mouse album as good as Perfect From Now On.
>>
>>60925452
The Lonesome Crowded West
>>
>>60925452
Building Nothing Out Of Something
>>
>>60925452
Its not a competition m8, PFNO and LCW are two of my favorite albums. Doug and Isaac are friends
>>
>>60922880

Truckers Atlas
>>
>>60925452
M&A and LCW are just as good.
>>
am I a pleb if I like Keep It Like a Secret more than Perfect from now on?
>>
Modest Mouse is a poor man's Built to Spill is a poor man's Pavement is a poor man's Sonic Youth is a poor man's Swans is a poor man's Branca. They're all great so don't sweat it you faggots.
>>
>>60922880
paper thin walls was pretty good
>>
Life Like Weeds
>>
>>60925601
>Built to Spill is a poor man's Pavement
stopped reading there
>>
>>60922963
wild pack of family dogs is one of my favorites
>>
>>60925596
Nope, the only plebs are the people competing over who has more patrician taste in indie music tbqh
>>
>>60925815
there's no such thing as patrician taste in indie music.
>>
>>60926022
That's exactly what I'm saying, friend
>>
Cockroach desu senpai
