BALKAN STATES EDITION - #3 - Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Figured since there are quite a few Balkan states we should split them into several threads, and what better way to do it than alphabetical order, completely ignoring cultural interconnections and common history.

My favorites from what i've heard are probably Dumisani Maraire - The African Mbira and Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares,

Good thing this thread isn't about popular contemporary music then.
>>60901635
There's a couple of other volumes by that group. Check hampus' link, there's like 5 other Bulgarian releases.

>>60902588
on a scale of 1-10, it's not /trad/
>>60902772
going, but i'll be able to read this in the morning. what makes something /trad/? when is something not just influenced by trad, but actually trad? any working definition?
>>60902956
folk music, stuff like that
>>60902772
could i still get a general consensus on it, a cousin of mine in america who is visiting wants to know
>>60903105
Why don't you just tell him what YOU think?
>>60902956
traditional folk music is music that has been passed down orally and has no known composers. Usually it serves some utilitarian purpose, such as a work song, or funeral song. But for the purposes of /trad/ we also accept non-western classical music and similar genres that have been brushed out of public consciousness.
something that is influenced by trad is usually, at it's core, a piece of modern western music (typically rock or jazz) that contains elements of traditional music from other cultures.
>>60903522
>has no known composers
Not necessarily
>Usually it serves some utilitarian purpose, such as a work song, or funeral song
Not necessarily, in fact I'd say the majority of trad music is regular old dance music.
bump the stump and rump the dump
