We used to take for granted that there would always be music of this magnitude, like the Beatles, Queen, Black Sabbath, etc. Yet, we see now that that is not always the case, and there hasn't been as much of this music in our current time. Sure, we still have pop stars and entertainers, but it is more often than not a cheap disposable spectacle or just porn. We have not got that kind of generation bridging music like the Beatles, where you had the masses old and young year after year gathered to celebrate the same songs. The kind of music that is connected to the eternal.
Billy, like many artists, realizes he is not directly responsible for the things he makes, that he is a conduit through which inspiration appears, and his diligence is to capture that through the honing of his craft, facilitating an internal state that is responsive when inspiration strikes. If the inspiration just comes to you though, where is it from? The answer is God. When musicians write those eternal songs, they are a conduit for the holy. As we see how rare these artists really are, we begin to realize that the great pantheon of classic rock, is akin to the saints or holy men of Christianity's past.
