BALKAN STATES EDITION - #1 - Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Figured since there are quite a few Balkan states we should split them into several threads, and what better way to do it than alphabetical order, completely ignoring cultural interconnections and common history.

I don't really feel like I'm done with the east central european post soviet states yet; I need to at least listen to these two more albums I downloaded from Ukraine, so I'll do that before I can comment on anything related to Balkan music.
I did, at least in my opinion, a pretty decent write up on Albanian music a year or two ago, wish I still had it.
this is pretty cool

For some reason I only have the second volume. The group has a bunch of recordings. Should probably grab a few more.
Almost done with this, and couldn't really recommend it to anyone. Maybe it's great if you know the language and can follow along with whatever's being told, but for an outsider like me it's just some really uninteresting and bland, homophonic choral stuff.
Now Playing:

Not Balkan, but I listened to this yesterday and it was awesome.

They use a metallic sounding instrument I don't know the name of at 21:30. Does anyone here know how it's called and where I can hear some similar sounding stuff?

neat, something i havent heard
Somehow missed this thread and made a different one. If you're here, shout out to the guy that recommended Kytytsi by Svitlana Nianio yesterday. It's excellent. Really has that "ahead of its time" vibe.

>that "ahead of its time" vibe.
isn't this quite the opposite of what you'd wantf rom trad music?
My Serbian friend is big into Balkan folk but I don't particularly dig it.
This though was pretty cool

...no?
all I want is good music
>>60854938
It could be. I was never surprised enough by what I heard to lose "immersion" in the traditional sounds. It's still very formal. I loved it, so I'd just recommend it and say to see for yourself.
>>60854957
The fuck why is there a tabla player
>>60855423
Exactly why I've been digging it. Took me by surprise.
