I've never listened to this group but I like some metal. What should I expect?
>>
>>60796448
God-tier album. They were fantastic through the 80s, went to total shit in the 90s, and have now swung back to making ok music.
>>
>>60796448
Their first seven albums are all fantastic if you like traditional metal. Their modern albums aren't as consistent but have pretty enjoyable prog elements to them if you're into that sort of sound (my favorite album from them is Brave New World from 2000)

>>60806230
My nigga right here. Love them both. Some great anon shared the live orchestra version of TGA from 2010. His style of songwriting was very kitchen sink, but he had a real taste for his own flavor vocally and guitar wise. Wish he would be in one of those guitar moves videos on youtube. He has a really interesting style no one really notices

Coming through here. Happy Cycling is one of their best songs. Although if you bought this back in 1998 and it wasn't the Matador release (which contained Cycling as a final track) you got One Very Important Thought. Regardless all versions have Cycling as the final track. Either edition both are solid closers.

i regret not seeing that show so bad. have seen their take away show episode? Dave aggressively singing police story at a NY cop is about as good as a performance piece can get

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCD9LDE_LX8
>>
>>60806335
I didn't even have the opportunity to see it because it was all the way across the country. That take away show is hilarious due to the performance aspect of it. The cop has no idea. DP are one of the most underrated and underwritten about indie bands that is popular. I want them to do a more guitar led release like Rise above or Bitte, but I'm not sure if they will

>>
>>60806385
is swing lo worth checking out? i kinda gave up on them after it was clear he's done with getty address/orchestral music. I like bitte orca but it's a completely different band to me
>>
>>60806455
Yeah it's worth it, it's more poppy and the girls are put more to use and there's more pads being used as opposed to guitars which is the direction most groups are taking in the indie world but I digress. I like the more orchestral stuff from them better too. Yeah BO was a sea change record for them regardless of where its leading them. The title track from Swing Lo is a good song, an acoustic song that's slightly familiar of his early days but not as weird :/ Longstreth will never go back to those days as a weird lo fi guy but hopefully he'll shred soon
>>
The live version of Long Season is literal perfection.
>>
>>60806510
i'm hopeful for later life dave. he'll probably end up like scott walker, making ridiculous avant garde old man records because everything else has been done.

have you listened to the new deradoorian? i was pleasantly surprised
>>
>>60806582
Their discography is a favorite of mine, and it's weird because there's barely any ounce of them on the internet. It's not like their a forgotten out of print band, Long Season was released through Polydor I believe through an indie imprint. And it's not like they were small, they were popular. Anyone have an idea where or how I can get more info on them, or for that matter physical copies of their albums. Weather Report is 11/10
>>60806614
Yeah I know people probably passed over Deradoorian because its seen as "just another side project from an indie rock alum" but it was really good. I know pitchfork panned something of hers and thats probably why people ignored it but they put footage of her concert online so they may be backing her, and thus getting some detracted fans back into the fold. Yeah she's good. I hope Dave pulls a Scott Walker. Also you should check out the song Darkened Car from the New Attitude ep. Here's a link you might appreciate.

I believe it's the earliest performance of them I've found. It's before their major touring line up was in place back in '06 when they toured with Vampire Weekend (clips exist on youtube in shitty quality and weird sit down live vids). I've read online about people who saw him when he still lived in Portland before he moved back to Brooklyn, but by that point he was an indie legend amongst toe Williamsburg lofts

When I first started getting into music, I didn't like that song cause I thought the beat sounded dated and corny, so I tried listening to it in repeat until I got used to it cause I was a massive try hard. Still don't like it much.
>>

That closer feels like sitting down in a warm bubble bath
>>
>>60806957
That's a bummer because it's one of my favorites. They're an electronic group who got lucky and didn't crib a lot of their drum work from old school hiphop, so barely any of their work sounds dated.
>>60807004
I ignored them for a bit for whatever reason, but got into them around when Swing came out or afterwards. I started at the beginning but never really settled on a favorite, maybe Getty Address. I just really like Dave's approach and overall tone musically.

He achieved it well. My friend had this album in high school and I heard it later but loved it. I was more of a fan of his ambient stuff and he had warm jets. Now it's the opposite, he likes the ambient stuff and I got into the art rock stuff.

Not that guy, but glad you got back into it. MHTRTC has a really unique mood and perspective. I also associate it with winter right before the Christmas season and the ensuing days of the time so that's why I enjoy it so much I think. Also the general nostalgia thing helps.

Geez I hope so. I know Pfork loves them (and has since the beginning). I just hope he fucking releases something polarizing and intense and not something very poppy. I need more weird string sections, out of tune guitars, and vocal warbling from D-lo

I've listened to this album three times already, and to be honest, it's SEVERELY underrated Anco. De Soto Sun is glorious.

It really is underrated. Back in the day I played this on my stereo and on my other speakers, one CD one mp3 and played them around the same time. Was a really cool experience. Queen of my pictures is probably one of their best songs. Also there's a recording of de soto on youtube from 2000 like one of their earliest shows. Saw someone who had seen AnCo and followed them around back in their earliest period and saw them do campfire songs live and some other material wya before they had recognition.

It is such an unbelievable performance. I feel empty every time I listen to it, because once it is over there's this realization that there's nothing quite like it out there.

Yeah I actually like the rest of the album, just that song I could never really enjoy too much.

They might some day, but probably not. They're not one for nostalgia and revisiting songs. I'm looking at you 2008 version of Chocolate Girl that only so many people saw...
>>60807448
At least you like the album, because it's very very good. Took the calmer moments of Autechre and Apehx and put their own twist on it
