It's the most important of all the artforms. It probably came before language. Music and poetry follow a rhythmic pattern, movies, plays, television, all of these depend on music to maintain their themes.
It encompasses pretty much every artform besides painting, which is probably the most patrician artform anyways.

Writing is more accurate but it can never convey emotions as purely as music. Writing has a set value, a guideline on what each word can be interpreted as, music is fully up to the listener to interpret it. Vocal music makes it easier as it uses words to guide listeners through the song, but it's still more primal, emotional than writing.
