hey buttdoctor, how did you get one of those 4046s and how much was it?
>>
Are there any actually good 1x12 combo amps out there? I was checking out the Peavey 6505+ combo, but it sounds like motherfucking shit, compared to just the head and a cabinet. Are there any other mid-tier combo metal amps, or should I just suck it up, and get a cabinet and a few heads? I don't have a lot of space. Maybe the Peavey 6505+ Minihead, or something from Orange?
>>
messing around with nux time core delay's looper and found i could change between modes with the loop intact and effected by the new mode. pretty neat, creates a cool pad that you can build on/morph the rhythm and texture of. not bad for a 35$ delay. here i get a loop going and then cycle through the modes.

what exactly didn't you like comparison wise?

Hard to explain, but it was a lot more muddier, less meaty and generaly, only the high-gain channel was any good. And it still sounded kinda castrated. Might be cause of the speaker? I'd like to have an amp that has good cleans, so I could plug in a few pedals for muh Iron Maiden kind of distortion, and that has a good death metal lead sound, when boosted in the high-gain channel. If I had enough space or money I'd just grab the 8100 Valvestate. It's not as great in the cleans department, but it has probably my favourite kinda death metal tone.
>>
Does cracked Bias fx sound different than a bought one
>>
>>60758265
were they both open back cab's? that can make a big difference, plus spkrs used. I like to get an amp that sounds good clean and stays clean, and then use pedals for dirt...that way I have more tonal options instead of just having the dirt from the amp or worse having an amp that won't do clean well so its dirt is always present when I use pedals. just seems to make more sense for getting more sounds.
>>
>>60758138
The 1x12 combo's made in china, no wonder it sounds like ass.
The mini head is pointless, you can buy an used 6505 for the same price.
I think 1x12 is not enough for metal, I'd rather get a 2x12

>>60758265
The 8100's hella cheap where I live, I've even seen some 8200 for 250€.
>>
>>60757530
By "fucking around" I meant trying combinations of different things like chords and notes in a scale to make a sound that sounds good to you.
>>
>>60758601
I'm a university student, don't have enough time to hold down my job next to my guitar practice and studies. I also live with my parents and only have one room of space, so having a 100w amplifier is not a viable way to play. They usually sound like shit unless turned up to a normal studio volume.

The 8100 is cheap, but not sold around where I live, so the shipping adds up. I still think I'll own one when I finally move out.

happy birthday mate, your guitar looks awesome
>>
>>60762160
Work with a metronome so your notes fall right on time, but that's the basic idea yeah.
Also don't be afraid to put some gain so that it highlights when a note bleeds into another or when you let your string ring open.
>>
>>60762160
How long have you been practicing this?

Exaggerate the motion. Practice clean and focus on the quality of your playing. Speed up in small increments.

Give it a good while and you'll be able to play Altitudes.
>>
>>60761631
Plug in to practice sweeps, it's important you hear everything properly so you can correct your muting if needed. Also you're plucking too hard to make up for not being amplified. Relax your wrist, sweep in a fluid motion. Start connecting your upstrokes back into your down strokes instead of just breaking off and starting again

I've just started sweeping tonight, trying it out.
Thanks for the tips. About not breaking off, how else would I do it? I always assumed you'd pick down for all but thr final string and then up from the last string. I might try it plugged into an amp later. I will try to make it a rolling motion with my right hand

>implying you can't be a blooze lawyer with a standard les paul
>implying the price is that different between an deluxe fender and a gibson standard
I'm just taking the piss, but let's get real, over 1.2k it's blooze lawyer territory.
>>
>>60763060
Behringer pedals are okay, you might get tone suck, but you're not going to find a VB-2 for the same price as their Ultra Vibrato. Same logic for their replicas of discontinued boss pedals, but in the case of the Reverb Machine, it's a way better idea to buy the actual Boss pedal.

>>60762957
I don't like how the RV-6 looks, and none of the reverb sounds are particularly novel, the demos I hear of the Polara make their "shimmer" mode a lot less tacky.
Personally? I prefer the RV-3 and RV-5, if you're dissatisfied with the RV-6, perhaps look into the 3 or 5. I doubt the Polara is very different from the RV-6.
>>
>>60763572
Over 1.2k blooze lawyer? Nah, you are just poor, mate. Sorry.
>>
>blooze lawyer
Is this just poorboi metalhead jealousy?
>>
>>60763791
most musicians are poor let's not be dicks here
>>
>>60763713
Yeah I'm a bit disappointed with it. I got it because my Dad took me into the guitar shop to buy me a pedal for my birthday and they didn't have much else to choose from.

The shimmer is laughable, can't use it with a straight face.
>>
>>60763713
I had an Echo Machine and loved it.
I think the Behringer Digital Reverb is the Boss clone, not the Reverb Machine.
Does the Boss version have ducking, space, and cave settings? I'm obviously gonna research more before I buy anything >$60

I don't care about noise or hum because of the fuzzy style of music I play, the fact that I only use a few pedals, and my amp is so awesome it's hard to get a bad tone.
>>
>>60763791
Likely.

>>

I'm going to get a 1.9k guitar soon, that doesn't mean that going over 1.2k isn't blooze lawyer territory. There's no shame in being a blooze lawyer, stop trying to shrug it off.
>>
>>60763771
Spending 1,2k on an amp is a much wiser choice.
>>
>>60763884
>1.9k
>not blooze lawyer.
I own a $2.6k guitar, it cost me $1.2k shipped.
Enjoy that expensive fucker, it feels even better when you know you nailed a good deal.

>>60763904
Absolutely, I love my Boogie.
>>
>>60763836
Frankly, I'd keep it, it might grow on you, and reverb pedals work with ANYTHING. Ever added shimmer reverb to drums? Shit's hilarious.
The Polara won't change very much if you're looking for a pedal similar but better than the RV-6, they're pretty comparable.

>>60763844
Go for it I guess, my only complaint is that Behringers look ugly as sign, but I'm a slave to aesthetics. The Boss reverbs are a little more sparse than the Behringer, how odd.

>>60763884
From personal experience, once you go over 700 bucks, everything is the same quality or worse. Unless you buy a completely customized guitar or can afford to customize it, even after spending 1k+, it is really not that worth it.
>>
>>60763904
it depends
I'll build my own tube amp.
>>60763921
I never said 1.9k wasn't blooze lawyer, I was embracing that reality.
How did you get that deal? Did you buy it pre-owned even if mint?
>>
>>60763921
>I own a $2.6k guitar, it cost me $1.2k
Then you own a 1.2k geetar famalam.
>>
>>60763945
>From personal experience, once you go over 700 bucks, everything is the same quality or worse. Unless you buy a completely customized guitar or can afford to customize it, even after spending 1k+, it is really not that worth it.
The reason I'm getting it is because, just like you, I'm a slave to aesthetics. Will buy a high grade MIJ V or Explorer style guitar. It's a shame I'll probably have to get a hardtail due to limited Floyd availability.
>>
>>60763961
Preowned but dead mint. I was very surprised at the pristine condition of the guitar.
I'll take good care of it, the previous owner seemed to really love it.

>>60763977
I was just messing with >>60763884

My mindset is that the price is irrelevant, it's all about the playability, sound, quality. It could be a $100 guitar for all that it matters.

A guy here was completely happy with his Affinity Tele and that's what really matters in the end.

Strong/strength what's the difference? It's stupid either way. If you're an adult why are you trying to recreate a child's sense of anticipation for Christmas? It's self-delusion. You already know what the gift is. Leave childish things behind, if you're the strong adult you say you are.

Also, your sexual degeneracy is astounding. Perhaps it's an anal fixation? Do you often have a desire for complete strangers to insert things rectally? Do you want me to describe the process so that you can get off on it? I won't participate, freak.

>I was checking out the Peavey 6505+ combo, but it sounds like motherfucking shit, compared to just the head and a cabinet
The 1x12 combo was made in China, so quality is questionable. Realistically though, the speaker is the only major difference. The bias is higher on the combos (stock) as well, but that tends to improve sound.

What you heard could almost certainly be attributed to the videos you watched.

>Maybe the Peavey 6505+ Minihead, or something from Orange?
Mini heads cost the same as actual 6505s. Also why ORANGE? Haven't you been saying you want to play metal?

>The 8100 is cheap, but not sold around where I live
8100s aren't sold anywhere. They're discontinued. You'd have to find a working used example. Thankfully nowadays, most of the dead or dying 8100s have been weeded out, so buying them is relatively easy. Just be patient.

I got mine for $200 AUD, which is about $145 USD. Just be aware to sound good for metal they've gotta be loud, or boosted.

It doesn't really matter what your gear is valued at. If it plays well, sounds good, and you like it who cares? I've got my vintage strat sitting next to a Les Paul Custom, three heads, and my rack.

Just in addition to this, if you did go the 8100 route, you'll need a speaker cabinet as well. That'll almost certainly blow your budget. You COULD get something cheap and nasty, but you'd almost certainly have to upgrade later.

Good news is 8100s sound good with G12T-75s and V30s, so you can pick up cheaper Marshall 1960A and B cabinets instead of AV and BV if you're starved for cash.

Precision bass clone
Literally the most copied bass design on earth, available everywhere and at any price range from busted as hell mass market pieces found in pawn shops to totally handmade custom shop examples costing thousands of dollars.
People like them because they're cheap, work with ANY genre of music and sound like a bass guitar is supposed to sound. If you can only get ONE bass that can do anything, it's a P clone.

As for an amp, look at an old Peavey combo like the TKO or TNT. Both sound great, are durable as hell and inexpensive.

Guys, I'm leaving uni in a around half a year and am going into session bass playing. Mostly jazz, but whatever pays. Ill be doing gags, weddings, cruise ship seasons ETC. I'm looking for a five string bass with a short scale. I basically want it so be as small and light as it can be. I'm torn between getting a kiesel short scale bass or waiting a few months and getting a strandberg bass. Both of these would be headless, that's a big plus for me.
Are there any production basses that might work for what I want though?

Roundwound vs. Flatwound

So I have a new Tele that came with roundwound 9's. They're about ready to be replaced and I was thinking of changing them to flatwound, because flats tend to be less tinny and brassy and bright. Is this a fact or am I mixed up? Also, the Tele is setup perfectly for the 9s it came with, should I also get flatwound 9s, like will that be an even translation in terms of action/feel? Or should I just man-up and get 11s or 12s just because?

"magnetic" doesn't mean "ferrous."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium#Physical
>Chromium is remarkable for its magnetic properties: it is the only elemental solid which shows antiferromagnetic ordering at room temperature (and below).

Copper, for example, is the metal wound around your pickup magnets. If copper were non-magnetic, a vibrating string oscillating in that magnetic field wouldn't induce a current in the copper wire at all.

>Copper, for example, is the metal wound around your pickup magnets. If copper were non-magnetic, a vibrating string oscillating in that magnetic field wouldn't induce a current in the copper wire at all.
Actually it's because it's a conductor in a magnetic field, not because it's magnetic itself. It's Faraday's induction law in action.
>Chromium is remarkable for its magnetic properties: it is the only elemental solid which shows antiferromagnetic ordering at room temperature (and below).
Antiferromagnetism means the magnetic moments cancel each other, this isn't good if you want to achieve maximum alteration of the nearby magnetic fields. It's remarkable because it allows you to produce certain specialty materials when you couple it to ferromagnetic stuff. HDD drive heads are an example of this.

this amp for $170 because it squeaks at high volumes. is this still a deal if i have to get it fixed?
>>
>>60771345
Yeah, I have an epi eb3. Decent tone, only the neck pickup is any good though. I don't regret the bass but I got it used and figure I can sell it for the same price I got it. I just feel like chasing rick tone for a while.
The bass is 225, I believe I can get it under 200 with haggling.

That was a fun clip thanks for sharing.
>>
>>60771701
oh, it's a set neck. I thought you could get a body with special routing from warmoth but in that case forget my idea.

Anyone have one of these all in 1 pedalboard gig bags?
I've always hated the look of them on stage but I never realized they were so cheap. It's kind of exactly what I need.

Should I get one even though they kill the aesthetic of a beautiful organized board?
Ignore the 1 spot daisy chain lol

Really want an 8 string, I like the look of this ibanez but don't note if it is worth 800-1k being made in Indonesia

You'll wish you had gotten a real guitar once dj0ntcore stops being trendy.

I like your tone and riff. Also saved that pic, kek.
>>60771975
thanks for the support anon, I agree with your addendum too.
>>
>>60771967
no, it was creaking in the wind. none of it was audible in the air, the contact mics were just picking up the wood fibres stretching and twisting inside the tree, along with some branches clacking around up at the top.

Indonesian guitars are tripe mate

Look into a used Schecter Hellraiser/Blackjack if you want a decent 8 string
Used Ibanez Prestige are probably the best 8's you'll get.

what if somebody wants to play in both ranges at once
>>
>>60771545
Yes. The amp repair shop in my city is like 50 bucks bench fee plus parts, which is almost always less then 10.

So 230 tops versus a gagillion new, I'd go for it. Unless it's totally fried, try it yourself.

i have a cheaper rg321mh that is made in indo and it is decent....has some mild problems but not bad for a first guitar

when your dad brought you to work that day, didn't he tell you no pictures in the lab?
>>
>>60772091
Lawl, nice one. My dad can barely operate a computer. You should post pics of your job/gear rather than shitposting mine
>>
>>60772005
Then what do you want an 8 for?

You can't play power chord riffs on strings tuned that low, only single-note riffs sound good with distortion, and if you're doing touch-style, you're better off with a Warr guitar, or something similar that's actually built for low-action playing.

The only thing 8's are good for besides djenting is replacing a bass. They're a pain in the ass to play slap on too.

>what if somebody wants to play in both ranges at once
that's easy, just call him a faggot for messing with other people's ranges
if you want to do that just get a piano ffs, it even has the correct scale length for each note so they don't sound like shit like treble notes do on bass guitars and bass notes sound in guitars
