At first, I thought it was weird that their album Bargainville was suddenly showing up at every thrift store in town en masse, last winter. Then I saw the name "Jean" Ghomeshi and it all started to come together.
To be entirely fair, his trial doesn't start until next year so technically nothing has been proven in court... yet.

I know nobody cares and won't believe me but, I actually did meet every member of the band As I Lay Dying at one point, and Phil Sgrosso, one of the guitarists, on a couple occasions.
My oldest brother Aaron was born with a bad liver. When he was two years old, he had a liver transplant. He lived on that liver for 18 years and then in the year 2006 he needed another liver transplant. He was sick in the hospital for months, and we weren't sure whether he would live or die. I went to School with Nathan, Phil Sgrosso's younger brother and we were good friends. My parents talked to Phil/Nathan's parents one day and they mentioned that my brother was a huge fan of As I Lay Dying and was wondering they could get him a signed poster or something. Nathan's dad said that he would work on it. Eventually, they got back to my family and said that the band personally wanted to deliver a poster and signed drumsticks to my brother in the hospital. This did end up happening, and I don't have a picture of it anymore, but it shot my brother's morale through the roof and really helped him to keep fighting for his life as he battled his disease.
And wouldn't you know it, eventually my brother did find a new liver and the transplant was completed successfully. He still lives on to this day.
However, a couple years back I got a call regarding my friend Nathan. We had mostly drifted apart but we talked every once in a while and even met up a few times when we were still in high school. As it turned out, Nathan was diagnosed with brain cancer. I was only able to visit him a few times before he died last year, but I was glad I was able to see him. I ended up seeing Phil briefly at the funeral, but I only shook hands with him and said hi.
I've never really liked the band's music but it always seemed like they were genuine guys who really wanted to help my brother out. I'm glad nothing ended up happening to his wife and he's in jail, but damn.
