SLUDGE/DOOM/BLUES
OK. So I have some time since I just opened a bottle of wine and my bed sheets are still drying up so I can't go to bed yet. So, this is just a GENERAL talk about this kind of music.

Sleep
Kyuss
Electric Wizard
Melvins

>>60739780
Thanks!
Gonna post one more if anyone says GIMME SUM MOAR
>pic related, god tier sludge
Also tons of atmosludge and doom
I got some Nadja albums and I really like them, is there a sludge/doom chart out there?
I find the slow and deep noise to be really calming
>>60741142
Hate their vocalist, but god damn if that riff in the latter half of Bad Year isn't beautiful.
I'm a bassist, I love doing Sludge stuff, the riffs just feel good to play. It's like the musical equivalent of hitting shit with a hammer.
>>60741283
>It's like the musical equivalent of hitting shit with a hammer.
you said it
maybe you'll like this more
>>60739154
I also am a drummer who like to play sludge/doom.
What drummers do you usually drive inspiration from when playing this style? For me it's probably Electric Wizard's first drummer and Dale Crover
>>60741283
Why do you hate him? I think his voice fits perfectly with their kind of music
reminder that atmosludge is pretty dope
>>60741715
Johnny Rabb - love that guy. Best of the BEST
Drumming in bands - Atomic Bitchwax, Black Sabbath, Melvins, RHCP.

Not too much for doom/ sludge drumming anyhow, but if you're a drummer, I'm sure you will appreciate it.
its been shit trying to discuss this stuff on /mu/ ever since the metal general became a fixture
as someone said this is REAL fucking music
just rediscovered a lost masterpiece. Rebreather's Half Speed Ahead. anybody familiar with this shit? absolute top tier sludge.

I just slurped wine from the carpet, this is just turning out NOT to be a regular day
Does this count? I found it in the depths of Bandcamp a while ago and it's been stuck in my head for ages.

And here's one more Bandcamp obscurity.
This album was actually the first doom album I had ever listened to (I was attracted to it by the fabulous album artwork), and I loved it so much I decided to order the vinyl. The record company was so based they sent me that vinyl, another fabulous vinyl by a band called Origami Horses, and two different digital albums, all of them fucking fantastic. I paid twelve dollars total.
Sorry for the shilling, but fuck what a way to get started on a genre

You heard of Riff Cannon? it's the same band, and they released an album before changing the name

Or......... .... ........... The HORN OF THE RHINO?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2qLY4KHCYE
this is gotta be the DIRTIEST EVER fucking track.
This track is about Jesus Crist's Crusifix (read the lyrix)
Can't do links because phone but I too am a drummer in a doom band OP and here are some bands I have listened to a good bit
For sludge- fister, lord mantis, Indian, dragged into sunlight (N.V. Just came out it's amazing) ascend, wolvserpent, herder, and Monolord is a great combo of sludge/doom
The doomier stuff I usually jam is Conan, slomatics, ofc Electric wizard, Bell witch is a group I've discovered recently, amazing IMO. Earth and om are great too. elder has amazing guitar sounds, their self titled rocks all the way through. For really droney more ambient (?) stuff I go for artists like bong, sunn, Ufomammut, black boned angel, garden sounds. I discovered some of these here and some other places, IMO those are all prett quality artists. Sorry I can't link more shit and whatever
>>60744231
Too bad you can't watch videos.
Elder (not rly sure about what they are doing now, still not into their new stuff, but I Love their earlier stuff), Bell Witch - Gets boring... Ufomammut - fucking awesome. Anyhow, check out this band called GREY
I'm waiting for the vinyl to come in the mail (already have the CD version)

GREY - AT NIGHT
>>60744392

Good morning, you fucks. It's 5 AM. What am I suppose to do?
>>60744847
vocals I don't like very much
>>60744934
take a nice bath
>>60742789
both of Bitchwax's drummers were fucking stellar
>be but a whelp in 2003
>see Bitchwax play at this festival called Emissions from the Monolith.
>hard up for weed the whole time because we didn't know anybody to hook us up / were too shy to ask.
>Ackerman gets up on stage puffing a fucking 8 inch L, gets about halfway through it by the time they are done with soundcheck,
>tosses it across the stage to me and my bro
>go to fucking alpha centauri on this superweed while watching one of the greatest live sets ever performed
do see this band if you have the opportunity, they are one of the best
>>60743878
I thought this was a kinda disappointing follow up to Phoenix but I'll give it another shot based on your enthusiasm.
I also wasn't too hot on this one compared to Vol 2, any thoughts?
>>60744143
piggybank detected
I've been listening to these guys a lot recently as I write my dissertation.
>>60745108
what the fuck is a piggybank? :D
>>60744392
>Elder
Their new album has little to do with doom, but it's the best prog-stoner album of all time. You need headphones and a fresh buzz. Best musicianship I heard this year by a mile.
>>60744684
I mean, what do you mean by old? Blast Tyrant is certainly better than Transnational Speedway or whatever it was called. Self Titled is their best tho.
>>60745157
I fucking love this band, the riffs! the riffs!
>>60745164
i thought maybe...
These guys are pretty good too.
>>60745167

I thought the vocals were fine, I'm enjoying this tremendously.
Weird reference but they kinda remind me of Cauchemar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8Ftzl2EX2Y
>>60745167
ST and the one before
93 (earliest album) had harsh vocals which no other album has had. IMO their best album. But yeah 1995 or 1993 their best 2 albums.
>>60745531
anon thank you, I have been lurking and listening each of your discoveries and taking notes mane
>>60745531
this is rad
>>60745539
I mean, I like the harsh vocals too but you can't deny that some of their later material was fucking stellar

Really cool to see callouts to Bitchwax, Grey, and OTIS in this thread. You guys are my dudes.
If you haven't heard Weedpecker - II, it is one of the best stoner rock records of the year
I'm in a sludge/doom/post metal band from the northeast u.s called Titanis. here's our stuff if anyone's interested.
A demo of a newer song:https://m.soundcloud.com/titanis-122762364/

>>60746778
Thanks! Glad you dig it
>>60746836
you guys done any significant touring yet? this is surprisingly accomplished stuff, I would honestly rank it on par with the latest Monolord release
i recommend plugging your shit on these sites if you haven't, I believe they have appropriate forums for self promotion:
theobelisk.net
riffrocklives.com
>>60746912
No significant touring yet but hopefully some day. And thanks for that compliment! I love Monolord. I knew about The Oblesik, in fact theres a funny story about us and that site. We opened for a band from Oklahoma called Oberon and the guy who runs the obelisk was there. We were excited as fuck. During our first song our guitarist stepped on my cord and ripped the electronics out my bass, and I flew into a drunk rage and threw my bass and stormed out. If you search our name on the site i'm sure you'll see the review. I'll check out the other site
>>60747057
duuuuuuuuuuude
what a story, i have had many similar experiences in the name of alcohol \m/
i'll be keeping an eye on your shit, keep it up

this what i think of when u say groovy doom:
Spelljammer
Soulpreacher
Acid King
Warhorse (listen to "Doom's Bride" and "Black Acid Prophecy" in their entirety, fucking masterpieces)
Beast in the Field
Summoner
>>60746383
Goddamn those fucking vocals are top-tier
Does anyone here have much of a local scene for doom/sludge ect?
>>60748376
Out here the Boston area has a pretty big doom and sludge scene.
i play bass and guitar. i would love to make a doom band but i don't know anyone else to play with:( so as of right now i'm just doing solo black metal stuff
have you guys even heard with the dead yet? it's the dudes from electric wizard with the main guy from cathedral
