Wasn't that originally a Molly Nilsson song?
I fuckin love John Maus btw. I'm dying to get more info about his new album, apparently he built his own synths for it.
Avoiding Catatonic Surrender by Tim Barry

yeah
john literally just sung over her original yet it worked so well
i'm keen to hear from him too, he's been MIA all year apart from that one tweet linking this random outsider artist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSe7gUneQas that is actually quite interesting to read up on
somebody found a dissertation he did too https://www.docdroid.net/yASlco4/john-maus-communication-and-control.pdf.html

damn, thanks for this. What's the story on that outsider artist?

it's probably more interesting to me because i get a kick out of discovering these weirdo obscure artists but the gist of it is that he's an immigrant from trinidad who spent much of the 80's/90's making lofi pop with heavy synths that were always accompanied by these sparkly dancing videos that would air on public access tv stations late at night

you can tell that he's influenced ariel pink to a degree, but the whole style seems like a proto adult swim
DID SOMEONE SAY JOHN MAUS

Fuck that's probably my favorite album. I feel dumb that it's my favorite album, but I fucking love every song on it.
Also rights for gays is the best song ever

you shouldn't
have you listened to his earlier albums

I've heard Songs and Love is Real which aren't nearly as good imo but still have a bunch of decent tracks. I'm acquiring a taste for early Maus and Ariel Pink stuff at the moment.

it's a fun & rewarding journey, particularly ariel
I love that album but watching a video of his live performance kind of turned me off from him for a while
i would fucking kill for a new Ariel Pink/John Maus collab.
Has anyone gotten to see the guy live? I don't care if it's basically a karaoke set, if he gets some decent lighting and a crowd that actually knows him and vibes with his performance style i feel like it would be an incredible experience.
